July 2019
2023 is the 150th anniversary of the wreck and rescue of the SS Atlantic.
This project was launched to commemorate this anniversary and
to celebrate the community around us.

Do you have a story that you would like to pass along?
We are looking for memories and stories from local residents of Upper Prospect, Lower Prospect, and Terence Bay related to:
  • Personal stories about life in the community
  • Stories passed down through generations about life in the community
  • Memories passed down about the SS Atlantic wreck and rescue.
Three Community Outreach Coordinators have been selected from the local communities. They are Krystal Harrie, Emily Kylie, and Paul Smith. They will be conducting audio interviews this summer and fall. The recordings will be available soon at a Listening Station in the SS Atlantic Interpretive Centre. Come on by and have a listen.

If you would like to tell your story email to
or talk to one of the Community Coordinators.
We look forward to hearing from you and hearing the stories that are shared.

New Interpretive Signs

Watch for the new signs soon to be installed on our boardwalk and in front of the SS Atlantic Interpretive Centre. Suggestions from community members initiated a review of these panels and with the support of the NS Department of Communities, Culture and Heritage we now have revised and new signs.

The SS Atlantic Heritage Park Society is making plans to commemorate this anniversary and

Big huge thank you

To Francis Monaghan for fixing our vandalized Gazebo.
