Our News - Untold Stories
Our Group News

Yes, we are exhibiting again - we have been invited to exhibit at the beginning of December at the Black Swan Arts' Round Tower Gallery. It is a lovely space - a stone tower behind the main Black Swan Arts building. In front of the tower is a very lively café with good coffee and food. Nearby is a car park. And Frome itself is a great place to shop.

We have called the exhibition "Untold Stories" as many of us will be exhibiting work that we don't normally show in our mainstream exhibitions. So Judy will have collages, Kara will have nature pouches, Jane will show the collagraphs she uses for her wonderful textile prints, Claire will have her new 3D structures and our newest member, Rachele will be displaying her nature based work. As well as work from other members, there will be our usual sales table with items and handmade cards made by the group.

Come and see us in Frome from 8th to 19th December between 10 and 4pm (3pm close on 19th). The address is

Black Swan Arts, Round Tower Gallery, 2 Bridge Street, Frome, BA11 1BB
and their website is https://www.blackswanarts.org.uk/
Meet Our Members - Rachele Dickie, our new member
We are delighted that Rachele Dickie joined us in September. She is a textile artist with a passion for wildlife and nature. She combines this with a love of Printmaking and Textiles to create one off bespoke textile pieces as well as surface design patterns. Her processes include mono printing foliage onto fabric, using transfer dyes on a heat press as well as hand printing designs with stencils and linocuts. She also enjoys further enhancing pieces with stitch to create texture or a focal point.

Those of us who visited Festival of Quilts this year, will have seen Rachele's I Spy quilt.

Rachele has recently completed her HND in textiles gaining a Distinction whilst working full time. She has her own website at https://racheledickiedesigns.co.uk/ on which she sells her bespoke textile pieces and a product range of nature inspired interior and garden textiles. She is also happy to take commissions.
Meet an International Textile Friend - Sara Hibbert

Sarah Hibbert is a modern British quilter influenced as much by art and architecture as quilting heritage. She has made a significant name for herself on both sides of the Atlantic, where her work has been shown as well as acquired for both public and private collections. Her work as been featured in various publications such as Today’s Quilter, Curated Quilts and Simply Moderne,

Sarah's Reflections quilt was acquired by The Quilters’ Guild of the British Isles in 2019 for their permanent collection to represent modern quilting.

Her Macaroons quilt above, has been used as the poster for Festival of Quilts 2020 and 2021.

Wild Blue

Sarah loves the combination of old and new; of the traditional and contemporary; she uses patterns passed down through the generations but always adds a twist of her own. Working mainly in linen textural fabric, hand stitching, natural, rich tones and clever, but limited use of prints, she brings her quilts into the modern vibe of design to create a conversation between the fabrics.

Sarah’s second love is paper collage which has encouraged her to broaden her colour palette. From these simple paper creations, she has taken her designs through to quilt layouts and finished quilts. She loves seeing her design in two different mediums. This is what has inspired her first book From Collage to Quilt: Inspirational Quilting from What You Have which will be published in spring 2022.
