CHAPLAIN TURNER’S RECENT ENCOUNTER
Bishop Hayes called me at home to notify me that we had an emergency situation in Terminal C. A woman traveling to DFW was informed upon arriving that her missing daughter's body had been found.
I met the terminal supervisor at C30, and he briefed me on the situation before I met with the mother. We sat and visited for a while before bringing her over to the chaplaincy office, where we continued to talk. When she expressed a need for anointing oil, I obliged and prayed over her speaking the words of Jesus, “Peace! Be still!” I made her a cup of coffee before we returned to C to catch her flight.
As we sat at the gate a friend, who had flown in for a conference, visited with her. When the mother asked who would do such a thing to her daughter, the woman told her that they had arrested the boyfriend. Upon hearing this, the woman began to cry out and say his name. I bent over and whispered to her, “Peace! Be still!” She quieted down. Then I told her that she did not need to think about the boyfriend’s name; the only name she needed to think about and say was Jesus. The customer service agents boarded her first, and I helped her down the jetway to the plane.
