An Australian Record for Angus
ICYMI - Southern Athletic Club has a new national record holder!
On Wednesday evening, Angus Hincksman set an Australian record for the T38 5000m open age group. Not under 16, but OPEN! In his first ever outing over this distance on the track, he ran beautifully even splits to finish in 18:26, knocking over a minute off the previous record - WOW!
Angus is just 12 years BTW. There's plenty more to come from this young man.
Kuitpo Forest Trails
Last Sunday was a perfect morning out as a big group of our rec runners joined 1200 other runners and walkers at Trail Running SA's Kuitpo Foreset Trail Races. As with all TRSA events, this was a well organised run and weather conditions were ideal.
The course was stunning with plenty of hills (that's why we train on them folks!) and technical single track. There were some falls (Mick), some navigational issues (Bec), an age group victory for Emily S in her first ever trail run and a DNF for Emily W :( The magical fairy forest was my highlight, running through the dappled forest on a carpet of pine needles - so peaceful. This is why running was invented (maybe).
Southerns were really tested at the Port with strong fields in all categories .
Performance of the day goes to veteran Salvador Jurado in an exhaustive battle to win the vets & women's 1600m. The final 400m was a nail biting conclusion where Salvador overpowered his opponent to win on the line. Jared, Dane, Nick, Sebastian, Joshua, Anan & Meg once again performed well and look set to have an impact in the upcoming carnivals.
He did it! Rob completed his first marathon in 5:26 last Sunday in The Big Apple.
It has been fantastic watching Rob's journey to the New York Marathon over the last year - from the struggles, through the doubts and to the ultimate triumph. Seeing the long runs get longer, the body shape changing and the KM splits get quicker - good work fella!
Along with the personal challenge, Rob has been part of the Roger Rasheed Sports Foundation team who have raised more than $130,000 to give under privileged kids a sporting chance.
