Knox Park Update
Deputation - 17 October
Matt and Macey spoke at the Onkaparinga Council meeting on 17 October to put forward our case for bringing athletics to Knox Park the councilors who did not attend our community meeting. A packed public gallery of Sharks & their families proudly wearing their Southerns colours was incredible support & certainly made an impact! After a 10 minute speech there was a further 20 minutes of questioning which all went well and I feel that we now have gained support from most, if not all, of the councilors and mayor.
In the urgent business section towards the end of the meeting, Cr Heather Merritt raised a motion to request that a report be produced to detail everything that is required to enable athletics to move into Knox Park. Unfortunately (due to Council protocol) this motion was rejected as it was not considered urgent business. We will work with Heather over the next month to develop a formal motion that can be raised with sufficient notice to be discussed at the November Council meeting, aiming to get us permission to make Knox Park our home.
Maybe not as large a step forward as we had hoped, but a step forward nonetheless.
Fund My Neighbourhood Program
Unfortunately, the $90,000 grant application we submitted to build a toilet on Knox Park was rejected so will not be going to a public vote. This is bitterly disappointing, but we teach our athletes to be resilient so we will demonstrate resilience and keep on with determination and focus to reach our goal.
Return Your Petitions
Please return your petitions to Matt or to your coach as soon as you can so that they can be presented to Council to demonstarte the significant community supprt that our proposal has.

Number of the Week
Ron Hill (UK running legend and former marathon world record holder) holds the longest running streak in history by running at least 1 mile every day for 19,032 consecutive days.
That's an incredible 52 years and 39 days!
Not sure about that singlet though Ron.
