MARCH 2018

Child Care Advocates are vital to support children

As many of you who supported our Christmas campaign will know, Child Care Advocates are vital in supporting young people at the Safe Parks.
Child Care Advocates work with the children and their families to ensure that their rights are understood and that services such as education and healthcare are accessed and used to best improve opportunities for the young people. Child Care Advocates also work closely with social work teams to protect young people and ensure that they are safe guarded in their homes and communities. Donations from our supporters pay the wages of these important staff members and this year we want to make sure that even more Child Care Advocates are employed at each Safe Park so that children can be fully supported and be provided a listening ear for their issues, as we hear about in the case study of Zintle further down.
Thank you as always for your generosity, and please do continue to give so that support that we might take for granted in our lives, can be extended to those who are vulnerable and finding it difficult to know who to turn to in Gauteng.
WORKING TOGETHER IN 2018
The Safe Parks supported by the Bishop Simeon Trust have been continuing to work together to share good practice and to bring the young people together for events and programmes. Such events mean that staff can discuss how things are working at Safe Parks and the children can meet and work with others who are accessing similar services to themselves. You can read more about the celebration day held by four Safe Parks HERE.
CASE STUDY
Zintle is 13 years old and is a regular attendee at a Safe Park.

"The Child Care Advocates take good care of me, I am always happy with how they make sure that everything in my life is going well at all times.

We all love all the Child Care Advocates here, but my favourite is Thembeka. Simply because she is funny, calm and I find it easy to open up to her. She is really loving and caring, she practically plays the role of my mother here at the Safe Park.

I enjoy coming to the Safe Park because I can be away from the problems I face at home, it feels like a place of tranquility."

Your donations are what keeps children like Zintle in our youth programmes. Please help us to ensure we reach the children in need of our support.
