The sun is belting down, the shops are full, school is out and the Christmas parties are in full swing - yep, the festive season is here again (already).
If you haven't started or completed your Christmas shop this year remember to #shoplocalmnc #shoplocalthischristmasmnc where you can - it makes a world of difference for our local retailers, artisans, producers and small businesses.
It has truly been my pleasure to work with the Mid North Coast region throughout 2018 and I look forward to doing it all again in the new year.
Economic development isn't always about growth, it's also about protecting and nurturing what we already have and our health - and the health of our staff is most certainly something that needs to be considered in this mix. RDAMNC is working with Thea O'Connor to deliver a workplace wellbeing workshop on 5 February in Port Macquarie. The workshop will enable the development of workplace (and personal) wellbeing goals - you know, after our new year's resolutions have bitten the dust.
There's more information here (note, there are only 30 tickets and 9 are sold already so don't dilly dally).
Some 2018 highlights at RDAMNC:
Youth employment: This year RDAMNC has worked alongside our local industry, education and employment service providers, government and of course young people (that's a demonstration of fourth sector collaboration in case you were wondering) to develop what we call the BLUEPRINT FOR YOUTH PATHWAYS. In March 2019 the region will see the launch of the platform - right now you can register as an employer here or service provider here (the more registrations we have before the launch the better). Early in 2019 we will be encouraging young people (aged 15-24) to register - more on that soon...
University economic report: Several weeks ago RDAMNC launched the report which was commissioned by Northern NSW Local Health District. You can read the report here
Ignite MNC: We Ignited the Mid North Coast again, this time with a stellar event in Bellingen hosted by the fabulous Clare Bowditch. Ignite MNC is a true example of fourth sector collaboration with a good mix of small business owners, community members, not for profit staff and government coming together to discuss an enormous range of ideas pointing towards the betterment of the region. Ignite MNC will be held again on 6 November 2019 - we will announce the venue in the new year (SAVE THE DATE)
Business Acceleration Panels: Throughout the year we worked alongside our colleagues from the Department of Small Business and Ausindustry to deliver the online panels which offer the owners of growing businesses to meet with us online for 40 minutes to present their business and growth challenges and gain links and advice. The panels have successfully connected business owners to funding sources, advisers, networks, employment support and more. If you - or someone you know would like to participate in 2019 drop me a line here
Grant and funding support: While RDAMNC doesn't write funding applications we do provide support in other ways: (1) We provide information about what grants are in the marketplace here (2) We provide free access to valuable stats to support your applications here (community data) and here (economic data) (3) we provide letters of support for applicable projects - contact us to find out more here. If you would like more information about the art of grant applications you can check out my grant writing series here
We have a lot planned for 2019 so stay tuned to the newsletter and more importantly our Facebook page.
Thanks so much for your support in 2018 and I look forward to connecting with you in the new year.
Wishing you a safe, joyous and relaxing holiday season (and a special note of thanks to our medical, hospitality, community services and others who will be working harder than ever over this time - may your customers and clients be well mannered, generous of spirit and aware that your busy time means the rest of us can relax - thank you.)
See you in 2019.
Kerry and the RDAMNC team.
