Welcome to The Bookshop at the End of the Internet

September 2020

In this month's newsletter, some of the authors who have appeared on our podcast are sharing their book recommendations. Enjoy!

Bookshop Author C. Kevin Thompson

Episode #040
Award-winning author C. Kevin Thompson's new book, The Letters, is a fast-paced mystery from an author known for his suspenseful page-turners. The Letters recently took second place at the Advanced Writers and Speakers Association's (AWSA) Golden Scroll Awards for the Christian Market Book Award Novel of the Year. And for fans of Kevin's Blake Meyer Thriller series, fear not! The last two installments in his six-book series will be coming your way soon.

Here are C. Kevin Thompson's book recommendations this month:
Books by author friends who are not yet on the best seller lists (but should be!):
The Reunion by Dan Walsh
(or any of his other 20+ books)

and
Any of the wonderful books by Eva Marie Everson

Books I find myself recommending (because they are just so good!):
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes books/stories
and
Ann Cleeves' Shetland series
One of my all-time favorites (so much story in what amounts to a novella!):
A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens

If you enjoy my books (in the various genres), you may like:
Tilly by Frank E. Peretti
and
Jaws: A Novel by Peter Benchley
and
Jurassic Park: A Novel by Michael Crichton
and
Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan series

Bookshop Author B.J. Lee

Episode #038
B.J. Lee is passionate about the derivation of words and the richness of language, which is understandable given that she is a poet. When shoulder surgery left her unable to write long manuscripts, she took to writing poems and short stories. Check out her wonderful children's picture book, There Was an Old Gator Who Swallowed a Month. It is a fun adaptation of the classic cumulative tale, There Was an Old Lady, with plenty of rhythm and Floridian flourish.

Here are B.J. Lee's book recommendations this month:
Book by an author friend who is not yet on the best seller lists (but should be!):
Unicorn Day by Diana Murray

Book I find myself recommending often:
If You Find Me by Emily Murdoch
If you enjoy my book (and are a fan of doughnuts!), you may want to check out:
Dozens of Doughnuts by Carrie Finison

Bookshop Author Gary Golio

Episode #035
Gary Golio is an award-winning and New York Times best selling author of children's picture book biographies. His latest book, Dark Was the Night: Blind Willie Johnson's Journey to the Stars, tells the inspiring story of one of the most accomplished slide guitarists of all time. Learn about Willie Johnson's journey -- from growing up poor in rural Texas to having his song, "Dark Was the Night," rocketed into space on the Voyager I space probe's Golden Record. Check out Dark Was the Night, as well as Gary's other biographies about Jimi Hendrix, Carlos Santana, Charlie Chaplin and many others!

Here are Gary Golio's book recommendations this month:
