With 2023 already in swing, most Community Groups/Associations will be gearing up for their AGMs and electing new office bearers. In order for the Shire to circulate correct information to the community please make sure you inform us of any updates to your members and their contact details.
We would like to know:
President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary (name and contact details) and who the preferred contact is for the group.

Clean Up Australia Day
Clean up Australia Day is a great opportunity for communities to work together and take practical action. Everyone who gets involved shares how rewarding the day is and how it has made a lasting impact, changing the way they think about their everyday habits and the practical changes we can all make.
Key dates for 2023:
- Business Clean Up Day – Tuesday 28 February
- Schools Clean Up Day – Friday 3 March
- Clean Up Australia Day – Sunday 5 March

National Walk Safely to School Day
When: Friday 19 May 2023
Where: All primary schools across Australia
Why: This national initiative aims to encourage children to lead a healthier, more active lifestyle by simply including a walk at the beginning, at lunch time and at the end of each day. The event also promotes reduced car-dependency, greater use of public transport, cleaner air, improved diets and road safety to primary school children across Australia.

Roadset Training
RoadSet is a free, interactive online road safety learning experience and educational tool designed to help young people become better road users and make Australian roads safer for everyone. This program has been been provided by Australian Road Safety Foundation with funding from the Australian Government as part of its pledge to support priority areas such as regional road safety, driver distractions, protecting vulnerable road users and reducing drug driving.

Tafe and Vet Courses 2023
Looking for the next job opportunity, starting or changing career, or to simply upskill?
WA Government have some exciting news, this year there will be over 100 courses a completely fee free! The FREE IN '23 initiative will help strengthen skilled workforce, support employers and businesses, and provide greater opportunities for Western Australians.

WA Volunteer Service Awards 2023 - NOMINATIONS OPEN
The Department of Communities helps to acknowledge the significant efforts of Western Australia's volunteers through the WA Volunteer Service Awards program.
Nominations for the 2023 WA Volunteer Service Awards include a new Lifetime category and changed eligibility requirements to include voluntary service across multiple organisations.
Western Australian volunteers who have volunteered for over 25 years can be nominated in one of the three categories below to receive a commemorative pin and a personalised certificate in recognition of their service.
- 25-49 years of volunteer service
- 50-59 years of volunteer service
- Lifetime of Volunteer Service (60 years or more)
Nominations for the 2023 WA Volunteer Service Awards program are now open and will close on 5pm Monday 27 February 2023.

The program aims to increase opportunities for people to participate in sport and active recreation activities in regional Western Australia, it is tailored to meet the ever-changing demands and challenges of sport and active recreation groups within the nine diverse regions of the State.

Saluting Their Service Commemorative Grant Program
This program is designed to preserve Australia’s wartime heritage; involve people around the country in a wide range of projects and activities that highlight the service and sacrifice of Australia’s service personnel in wars, conflicts and peace operations; and promote appreciation and understanding of the experiences of service and the roles that those who served have played in shaping the nation.

2023 National Volunteer Week
National Volunteer Week (NVW) is an annual celebration to acknowledge the generous contribution of our nation's incredible volunteers.
Throughout Monday 15 - Sunday 21 May 2023 thousands of activities will be held across the country to say thank you to the 6 million Australians who volunteer their time.
Supported by Lotterywest, each year Volunteering WA offers grants of up to $1,000 to be used by organisations to celebrate their volunteers during National Volunteer Week.
Grant applications are open 27 January to 5:00pm Sunday 5 March 2023.

NAIDOC 2023 Local Grants
The NAIDOC 2023 Local Grants are now open and the National Indigenous Australians Agency invites eligible applicants to apply until 9.00pm AEDT on Friday 17 February 2023.
Grants are available for activities to be held during NAIDOC Week (2 – 9 July 2023) by Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities and community organisations across Australia.

WA Youth Engagement Grants Program
This grant is used for funds to local governments and community service organisations to implement projects that engage young people, and help achieve positive outcomes for young people in the community.
Grants of up to $5,000 are available for short-term, one-off activities or initiatives of up to six months’ duration, and up to $10,000 for longer term, community-wide, strategic initiatives.

Protostars Grants
Provides small grants to young, passionate wild hearts working on passion projects in Australia or New Zealand.
Protostars isn't just a grant. It's a community. In addition to receiving funding, you’ll join a cohort of likeminded creatives as they work towards launching their passion projects. At the end of the cohort, the Foundation will host an exhibition designed to help get further support for your work, and showcase everything achieved together.

The Seedling Bank Grants
This grant funds the supply of native seedlings to schools and community groups around Australia.
Since 1996, National Tree Day has seen Australian communities plant almost 26 million trees. The Seedling Bank aims to further support these dedicated volunteers with their planting efforts by providing financial support where seedlings are needed most.
The Seedling Bank supports projects both big and small throughout the year, as they believe every day is Tree Day. There is no upper limit to the amount of funding you can request!
In 2023, Schools Tree Day is Friday 28th July and National Tree Day is Sunday 30th July. You will need to register your event with Planet Ark.

Sport and Recreation Events Funding Program
Providing financial support to assist sport and active recreation organisations to plan, secure and deliver sport and mass participation events in Western Australia.
A diverse sport and recreation events calendar will attract more sports fans and sporting teams to Western Australia and maximise opportunities to grow sport and active recreation events. This will help create more jobs and more vibrant urban and regional communities, boost the economy and enhance Western Australia’s reputation as a major sport and active recreation tourism destination.

The intent of the WA Golf Foundation is to provide support and funding to golfing organisations within your local communities and beyond.
Eligible applicants: Clubs, District Golf Associations, Golfing Organisations, Schools and other organisations currently involved or wanting to become involved in projects, programmes and services which result in the development of golf in Western Australia.

Business Workshop Series - Introduction, Sponsorship and Marketing
Delivered by Deparment of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Services (DLGSC) through The Hub Marketing, these workshops will provide foundational information including an overview of sponsorship and marketing in sport and recreation and educate on different social media platforms.
To be considered for a place, you must be available to attend all 3 sessions on the following dates:
