Adoption of the Strategic Community Plan

At its Council Meeting held Tuesday, 15 March 2022 Council adopted the revised Strategic Community Plan 2022-2032 (SCP).

Community consultation for the major review of the SCP was undertaken in June 2021 via several community workshops and an online survey where we asked the community ‘how do you imagine our future?’ An additional opportunity to provide comment on the draft plan was offered from January - February 2022.

The Strategic Community Plan is the overreaching document which informs Council around community direction. It is fed by community feedback and reviewed every 2 years (minor) and 4 years (major).
The aspirations set out in the SCP guide the setting of priorities for the Corporate Business Plan and funding allocations under the Annual Budget. These three plans, together with the Annual Report, form the Shire‘s Integrated Planning & Reporting Framework (sometimes known as the IRP Suite).

Council thanks the community for their feedback on this plan. Without it, Council does not have any strategic direction. A copy of the SCP can be viewed/downloaded from the Shire’s website or alternatively a hardcopy is available from either the Shire’s Gingin Administration Centre or our Lancelin Office.
Next Council Meeting

The Shire's next Ordinary Council Meeting is scheduled to be held on Tuesday, 19 April 2022 at 3:00pm. This meeting is open to the public.

Questions for consideration during Public Question Time should be submitted prior to the meeting using the e-form available from the Shire’s website.
Meeting dates for Council's Ordinary Council meetings for 2022 are as follows:
18 January 15 February 15 March 19 April
17 May 21 June 19 July 16 August
20 September 18 October 15 November 20 December
Restricted Burning Period
commenced 29 March 2022
The Prohibited Burning Period has ended with the Restricted Burning Period now commenced. This period will run from 29 March to 31 May 2022 although the end date may be extended if conditions remain dry and the Chief Bush Fire Control Officer and Fire Control Officers (FCO) judge that it remains unsafe to end the Restricted Period on the proposed date.

During the Restricted Burning Period you need to apply for a Permit from your local Fire Control Officer (FCO) (refer to your Firebreak Orders posted out to ratepayers last year for your area’s FCO and their contact number) at least 1 week before you burn.

PLEASE BE KIND TO YOUR LOCAL FCO ❤️
The public is requested to please remember that FCOs are volunteers first and foremost. When interacting with your local FCO please observe the following:
  • Please contact your local FCO between the hours of 7am – 7pm only. Outside of these hours is completely unacceptable. Our FCOs are volunteers with families and jobs/businesses outside of their FCO duties. Please respect their right to their own time.
  • FCOs are protecting you (the permit holder) from the risk of prosecution should a controlled burn escape. Please be patient and treat your local FCO with kindness.decision. By not issuing permits until it is considered safe to do so, The refusal of a fire permit is final. Please respect the FCO’s

Social distancing resumed for
Council Meetings
Although the State Government has now moved WA back into Level 1 restrictions, the 1 person per 2 sqm rule was resumed by the WA State Government when the state originally entered Level 1. Consequently social distancing measures have been resumed for Council Meetings held in the Shire's Council Chambers.

If you would like to attend a Council Meeting, whilst they still remain open to the public, the Shire requests that you please register in advance to attend the meeting. Call (08) 9575 5127 or (08) 9575 5130. Walk ins may be turned away if the meeting has reached capacity so make sure to register to secure your place.

This measure is so that we can manage attendances to ensure that we comply with our safety obligations to members of the public, Councillors and Shire employees. If you are intending to stay for the whole meeting, please be aware that you may be asked to leave the Council Chamber from time to time to permit the attendance of others. Masks are also required to be worn by attendees and hand sanitiser will be provided if members of the public would like to make use of it.

It's been a long journey the past two years but let's keep doing the right thing and exercising patience for a bit longer as WA rides out the Omnicron wave. We're all in this together.
While works continue with the renovation of the Guilderton Store, the Shire is organising for several food vans (including a coffee van and an ice-cream van) to be in Guilderton for the Easter long week from 15-18 April 2022.

More details about which food vans will be onsite, times, etc. will be made available through the Shire’s Facebook page in the near future.

Ledge Point Sandcastle Competition

On Sunday, 6 March 2022 the Ledge Point Country Club held their popular annual Sandcastle Competition. It was perfect weather with clear blue skies and ocean.

Around 300 people enjoyed the family friendly event with many children getting in on the action and crafting some amazing creations. The competition was followed by a free sausage sizzle and awards presentation at the Ledge Point Oval.
