Schedule for Holy Week and Easter
If you have palms at home from last year, please bring them with you to any service this week, so we can add them to the palms that we burn on Easter.
Maundy Thursday - March 29, 2018
6:30 p.m. - Agape Supper with Eucharist at Table (Mediterranean Potluck: Bring whatever you like)
7:30 p.m. - Liturgy of Foot-washing and Stripping of the Altar
We will gather in the parish hall at 6:30 p.m. and, in the tradition of the early Church, we will commemorate the Last Supper as we share a simple pot luck supper and Eucharist at table. After supper and communion, we will move to the church for the foot-washing Jesus instituted on this night and commanded his followers to continue. At the end of the liturgy, the Clergy and ministers solemnly strip the altar and remove all decorations and embellishments.
Good Friday - March 30, 2018
12:00 p.m. - Community Stations of the Cross (Begins at Church of Our Saviour)
Beginning at Church of Our Saviour, this traditional devotion focuses on 14 events occurring on Jesus' last day. Our Saviour participates with the other churches in Secaucus in moving from church to church as the relevant Scripture is read and reflected upon. Music is based on simple, melodic chants originated at the Taize ecumenical monastary in Taize, France.
7:00 p.m. - Solemn Liturgy of Good Friday
This Good Friday Liturgy picks up in silence where the Maundy Thursday liturgy left off...with Scripture, solemn prayer, the Veneration of the Cross and meditation on the Passion of Jesus Christ. Communion is offered from the sacrament consecrated at the Maundy Thursday Eucharist.
Easter - April 1, 2018
9:15 a.m. - Lighting of the New Fire and Consecration of the Paschal Candle
9:30 a.m. - Festival Eucharist of the Resurrection
10:45 a.m. - Traditional Easter Egg Hunt for Children
