Help for Hurricane Harvey Victims

Parishioners are concerned about the communities and victims affected by the Category 4 Hurricane Harvey that hit the Texas Gulf Coast on August 25. West and Coastal Texas and Houston, the nation’s fourth largest city, have been devastated, as well as parts of Louisiana.
With all the work that government and charities such as the Red Cross are doing on the ground to rescue, protect, house and feed residents who have lost everything, experts tell us that what is most needed from us right now is MONEY. The letter sent out by Bishops David Reed and Jennifer Brooke-Davidson of the Diocese of West Texas (the whole of which is published on our Facebook page - Church of Our Saviour Secaucus) asks us also for prayer:
Recommended sites for making contributions are:
Episcopal Relief & Development. Noting that the local church will be one of the first places people go to seek assistance and shelter, ERD is focusing resources now on relief and disaster response.  Later assistance will focus on recovery.
The Diocese of West Texas Disaster Response, which will make funds available as their “churches begin to assess their needs and the needs of their congregations.”

For those who are also concerned about helpless animals who have been separated from their families or abandoned by others, at least two organizations are effective and working right now:
The Humane Society Rescue Team is working with local officials to provide transport and rescue and is receiving direct online donations.
Wings of Rescue partners are flying animals out of flood-ravaged Texas and Louisiana to safe shelter.  Online donations can be made directly to them.
By no means least, Bishops Reed and Brooke-Davidson ask for our prayers for all those affected by this terrible storm.  We will also have a special collection in church this Sunday.
Blessings to you all,
