Budget Listening Sessions

Last week, the Joint Finance Committee held its third budget listening session at the University of Wisconsin - River Falls. There was a great turnout and nearly 200 people testified. We heard from several people about education funding and in particular special education funding. UW-River Falls would like to build a Science and Technology Innovation Center on campus and we heard from many students and faculty about funding that project as well.

We will wrap up our final budget listening session in Green Bay on Wednesday on the University of Wisconsin - Green Bay's campus. Once that is completed, the Joint Finance Committee will really begin shaping the state budget and start voting on provisions within the next few weeks.
Jerry Cognetta

Last week, after the listening session in River Falls, I presented a legislative citation to Jerry Cognetta who was recently inducted into the Wisconsin Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association Hall of Fame. I grew up in Elmwood where Jerry coached softball at Elmwood High School from 1977 to 1996. He won two state championships and posted an overall record of 301-39. This included an incredible conference record of 163-11 and a 63 conference game winning streak. Jerry was a great coach and teacher and is a wonderful person. Congratulations, Jerry!

Karl's Transport

On Friday, Representatives Mary Felzkowski and John Spiros and I presented Karl Schulz and the employees at Karl's Transport with a legislative citation for their dedication to community service. Karl's Transport is based out of Antigo and was founded in 1985 by Karl and his wife Jil. Many of you have probably seen Karl's trailers on the highway bringing awareness to certain causes. They have done them for the Honor Flight and other veterans causes, Gold Star Mothers, suicide prevention, to support law enforcement, and for missing persons.

Thank you Karl, Jil, and the entire Karl's Transport team!

Foxconn and Governor Evers

Last week, Governor Evers said he was looking to renegotiate the state's 2017 contract with Foxconn. This action could open the doors to the state altering contracts with other businesses throughout the state, which is a frightening prospect for Wisconsin's future! I have attached my statement below.
Drug Takeback Day

Wisconsin's Drug Take Back Day will be on April 27th. Any unused, expired, or unwanted medication can be safely disposed of at several locations around the state. You can use this interactive map to find a location near you.

Last year, Drug Take Back Day set a record by collecting over 68,000 lbs of prescription medication. It's time to clean out your medicine cabinets to help beat the record!
