Creating Dementia-Friendly Congregations

How can our places of worship be welcoming, safe and spiritually-fulfilling for those who have cognitive impairments such as dementia or Alzheimer’s?  For many of us, we are aware of the need to respond but aren’t sure what that means or how it looks.  To help us learn and implement simple yet powerful ways for our churches to become “friendly” places, please come to this morning workshop led by gerontological nurse specialist Mollie Cole, RN.  This event is free of charge and will be from 9:00 am to noon, Saturday, November 25th, at Knox Presbyterian Church, 3704 37th St. SW, Calgary.  All are welcome, and a special invitation is extended to clergy and other congregational leaders.  This event is sponsored by St. Martin’s Anglican Church.  To learn more and to RSVP (by November 20th), please contact the Rev. Natasha Brubaker at 403.510.6615 or natasha.stmartins@

Community Outreach Events

Death Cafés
St. Martin’s will be hosting three death cafés in November and early December.  Death cafes are part of an international movement to get us talking honestly and frankly about death and how that can also allow us to lead more rich and full lives in the present.  These events will be open to the larger community.  Coffee, cake and conversation will be the format, hosted by a facilitator.  Watch for exact dates, times and locations to come!  To learn more about death cafés, visit
