Dear Portlander,

Yesterday, the Portland City Council voted unanimously to approve the Spring 2022 Budget Monitoring Process.

This funding package, though relatively small in scale, is action-oriented and focused on meeting urgent recovery needs with a focus on upcoming summer months. It includes additional support to homeless Portlanders, continues to address ongoing gun violence, provides assistance to small businesses and community events, and increases capacity to improve our development permitting services.

Here are a few highlights:

This is an incredibly exciting time for Portland as we prepare for the coming summer months. I look forward to seeing the positive impact these investments will have in our community.

What’s next?

My office is actively developing the annual Proposed Budget, which will more substantially invest in Council’s shared priority areas for the next fiscal year beginning July 1.

Below are the following ways that you can share your voice with City Council:

  • Year-Round Testimony through City Budget Office: A place where you can read the city budget documents or provide direct testimony. The City Budget Office will provide written testimony to all members of City Council.

  • Budget Public Events: If you are interested in attending a community budget event or provide testimony at City Council hearings, visit this site to learn about opportunities to participate. Upcoming virtual public events include:

    • Saturday, April 16, 10:00am-12:00pm – Community Listening Session – sign up here by 2:00pm on Friday, April 15th.

    • Monday, April 18, 6:30pm-8:30pm – Community Listening Session – sign up here by 9:00am Monday, April 18th.

    • Additional upcoming events are listed here.

We are relying on our local community to guide our budgeting decisions – How do you want to prioritize public safety programs? How can we best support houseless Portlanders? How can we most effectively help our local economy recover and thrive?

I hope you’ll join us and make your voice heard.
