President's Corner

I want to thank everyone who came out to the PDC at Ameren this year. We had a great turnout and had a diverse set of speakers. On behalf of National AIHA, Kathleen S Murphy, CIH (AIHA President-Elect) provided an hour presentation on new programs being implemented at the national level for 2019. A few of the innovative programs that were discussed with the St. Louis local section were…
The Catalyst: Is a new online community platform that AIHA members can post questions and provide solutions, make announcements and exchange knowledge and provide interactive discussions.
The IH Professional Road Map: Each level of an IH professional's career can be described by the relevant technical, management, and leadership skills.
I Am IH: Promotes the IH profession throughout all industries as well as with the community and education.
Product Stewardship Society: The mission is to enable professionals to promote responsible design, development, and management of products throughout their life cycle.
Public Awareness Outreach: IH Heroes and Safety Matters, which are resources used to encourage students and young adults to pursue a career in Industrial Hygiene and Safety.
In March the 2019 PDC Planning Committee had a productive meeting with the intent of reviewing this year's successes and lessons learned.  Additionally we discussed ways that both organizations could improve on engagement and increase PDC attendees for next year.

This month on April 18th we will have a guest speaker, Kolie Kalyanie Eko CSP, MPH, who is pursuing Phd in Environmental, Health and Safety at The University of Iowa.  She will be providing a student presentation that we usually do this time of year giving them an opportunity to get some peer feedback and engage in our community. Having been blessed to have some great mentors and bosses in the past, this is invaluable to someone at this point in their career.   Remember to pre-register to hold your seat at Favazza's here:   https://www.eventbrite.com/o/aiha-saint-louis-local-section-13339533642
