President's Corner

From Richard Shoaf, President

We had a productive executive board meeting this month with the intent of reviewing the PDC successes and lessons learned.  Additionally we discussed presentations and schedule for the balance of the year.  Please know you can subscribe to our calendar, if your security settings so allow, by clicking here.

I have been asked to be one of three AIHA Local Section leadership members from our region to attend a Local Section Summit in Washington DC to discuss the national / local section survey and collect local section best practices and setting up goals moving forward.  I will share what we are doing as a local section and bring back any other ideas to help us be a better section.  Additionally our President Elect, Rachael Phillips and Board Member, Chris Merli, will be attending a leadership conference in DC a couple weeks after that.

This month we will have a guest speaker, Shawn Merillat, who is pursuing an MPH at Saint Louis University.  He will be providing a student presentation that we usually do this time of year giving them an opportunity to get some peer feedback and engage in our community. Having been blessed to have some great mentors and bosses in the past, this is invaluable to someone at this point in their career.   Remember to pre-register to hold your seat at L'Ecole Culinary here:

In the upcoming months we have scheduled topics including:  Phase 1, Novichok (Russian "newcomer" Nerve Agent), and possibly Mindfulness.  More details on each can be found on our online registration for luncheons here.

As always if you have an idea or suggestion to make our section better, do not hesitate to reach out to any of our board members and share it.  We are here to help our community grow and prosper.

Remember that all of this info can be found on our new website at
