Clinic Updates

At the heart of our work are our four legal clinics, where clients make first contact with New England Justice for Our Neighbors, are prepared for their meeting with an attorney, and are welcomed by volunteers who assist them and offer dinner and childcare.

When the COVID pandemic arrived, clinic coordinators and volunteers pivoted to an entirely remote service model.  Last year we were able to re-open our Central Mass. location in Worcester, and our Western Mass. clinic in Springfield opened its doors again in January.  Our two Northeastern Mass. clinics in Lawrence and Lowell have begun to discuss how they, too, can begin welcoming clients again in person, a gratifying experience for both clients and volunteers.

Like everyone else, though, we and our clients have been permanently affected by the pandemic and its unexpected upsides.  Over the last couple of years, we have been approached by clients living in a much wider geographical area than before, greatly increasing demand for our services.  Not having to travel saves our clients time, makes appointment logistics easier, and can make all the difference for clients with small children who may not want to bring them to an evening clinic.

Our new model includes offering our clients both in-person and remote options, and we are working hard to make this hybrid system work smoothly on the back end.  It has been a complicated process, but thanks to our coordinators and attorneys, we are now able to serve a wider range of clients in a more client-oriented manner.

10th Birthday Party Tickets Now Available!

We're pleased to announce that ticket sales for our 10th Birthday Party celebration on August 14th are officially open, and you're invited!  (Click here to see your invitation.)

This outdoor event will be an opportunity to celebrate a decade of service, see old and new friends in person, enjoy music and refreshments, and look ahead to another decade.

MA Work and Family Mobility Act Passed

Readers may recall that the Massachusetts Senate overwhelmingly passed the Work and Family Mobility Act in May, but that the Act was vetoed by Governor Baker.  Last week, the Massachusetts House and Senate officially overrode that veto!  Massachusetts is now the 17th state with similar legislation, which allows undocumented immigrants to obtain driver's licenses.  Other states have experienced fewer hit-and-run accidents, better relationships between police and immigrant communities, and, of course, significantly expanded transportation opportunities for immigrants.  You can read more about this exciting expansion of immigrant justice here.   Use this link to thank your State Representative for passing the Work and Family Mobility Act. The law will go into effect in just over a year.
