Happy Friday Church Family!
Can you believe that not that long ago we had snow! Now this gorgeous weather. What a gift.
Let me give you a few updates as we head into the weekend. First, everyone is excited that our province seems to be ready for the Yellow Phase
. Hopefully a detailed announcement today. This is great news for everyone. We look forward to the information that the Province of New Brunswick will share and then we can begin to wrestle with what it would look like for our ministries and what possibilities it may afford. We want to make sure that when we are ready to reopen, we have a clear plan in place to welcome people safely, in keeping with provincial guidelines. We also want to make sure our leadership and the congregation are ready and understand how to implement that plan for each given area of ministry, including the Hope Mission, our youth and children’s ministries. As you can imagine it is not as simple as just opening up the doors and letting people back in. It is going to take some time, so, stay tuned while we wait for the information, put a plan in place for how to apply it consistently, and then prepare our leadership for implementation. This is going to take some time.
A number of you have been
asking if we are allowed to gather in groups of 50, with physical distancing, whether we will try to offer Sunday worship services in person. The short answer is no. At this point we have no plans to reopen Sunday worship gatherings. We need to have a plan for how to physical distance, how to allow people to utilize and the clean the washrooms, how to deal with seating, and how to educate the congregation on how to gather in this new way. Lots to figure out. Trust me, we are looking forward to the day when we can start gathering together, I am getting tired of this being my preaching audience on Sunday J.
Let me give you a quick update on Alpha
! We had our first Alpha night on Wednesday (English and Mandarin) and it was so great! Obviously, offering Alpha online is a challenge and takes some adjusting, but our leaders have been amazing. We had 85 people register for this course that helps people hear the Gospel and offers them space to wrestle with its claims. We are meeting each Wednesday and Sunday night, so please be praying for God’s Spirit to be working as we offer this to so many people.
Let me also thank you for your continued generosity
. Your giving is allowing us to continue to serve the Old North End through our support of the Nick Nicole Centre meal program. It is allowing us to prepare for our summer ministries. It is allowing us to continue to support all the ministries in our missions budget fully, which has been so greatly appreciated. It’s allowing us to meet benevolent needs as they arise. It has allowed us to invest in the technology that is making our Sunday services possible. As we have asked from the beginning, if you are able to support our ministry together, we simply ask that you do so consistently so we can make wise choices about how to spend those monies. Thank you for your continued support.
Let me share just a few exciting things that are coming up
As always, we want you to know that we are here for you and if we can be helping, praying or supporting you in anyway, please let us know. Let me leave you with these wonderful words from the Book of Philippians 4:8, “And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.”
We miss you,
