Dear California Energy Colleagues,

As the Statewide Energy Efficiency Coordinator Best Practices Coordinator, I’m eager to help deliver valuable modes of knowledge exchange that can help communities sustain and accelerate their energy and climate goals.  Those of you working on solutions on the ground here in California are the most compelling storytellers about local successes and lessons that others could learn from. This short message is to encourage you to connect with me anytime (ahacker@lgc.org) to share those stories in the following ways:
  • Share relevant articles, reports, project examples, announcements and other content with me
  • Share your insights about a local energy issue, pilot effort, or best practice by writing a brief article for our wEEkly Update or by offering to be interviewed by me via remote video conference software.
In the future there will be more opportunities to connect with each other remotely to exchange information on specific local energy topics. I look forward to advancing our knowledge together. Please stay tuned and stay safe.

How COVID-19 is affecting the work of local government sustainability officers
ICLEI - Since the first cases of COVID-19 were reported at the end of 2019, every sector of society around the world has been affected. Sustainability departments are no exception.
ACEEE - First, with most families isolating themselves in their homes and apartments, actual work installing energy efficiency measures is swiftly dropping.
Microgrid Knowledge - Solar remains one of the “lucky” sectors in the current crisis; being so closely tied to an essential service, and one of few investments that can honestly claim to offer households and businesses significant cost savings in increasingly uncertain times.
COVID-19 Responses:
CA Energy Wise:
View Government and Utility information, community resources, industry information, and more tips.
SCG: Learn what SCG is doing to enhance the safety and wellbeing of their customers and employees.
SCE: Resources to help manage your bill during emergency restrictions.

Opportunities

ILG - The Beacon Program recognizes the measurable achievements of cities and counties working to address climate change. These awards, called Beacon Spotlight Awards, are given in five distinct award categories. Within each award area, a participant can earn silver, gold or platinum – based on the level of achievement. To win the highest honor, a full Beacon Award, participating agencies are required to demonstrate achievements in all five areas. If you would like to apply for award consideration in any of the five categories or for the full Beacon Award, please complete this form by July 1, 2020.
