Friday's Workshop

Colour Duet

Camp is all about yarn and having fun! So this year we’ve worked with our instructors to come up with something extra special.

What’s better than learning from one instructor?...how about learning from TWO?

Beginning on Friday morning after breakfast and continuing after lunch, this amazing class will harmonize instruction from both Fiona and Beth.

It will open with Fiona & Beth talking about choosing your colours, then you will go on to dye 5 mini skeins of Shepherd Sock from Lorna’s Laces.

While one group is laying it down with Beth, Fiona will lead a jamming session looking at working with your mini skeins to use in a small project such as mittens, hat, socks or a cowl; maybe some Fair Isle? some embellishments? some cables? and of course transitions.

In the dying session, maestro Beth will be guiding you to dye your mini skeins into colours that will work for your project.

The finale of the class will be a review of what has been learned with an encore from both instructors.

Saturday Morning Workshops

Fiona
Fun with Entrelac & Directional Knitting

Entrelac looks complicated but isn’t really once you know the tricks. This workshop will teach you the basic method and give you a chance to begin to play with the technique, to see what different directions you can take your knitting.

This workshop is geared towards knitters who have a little experience right up to those who are very adventurous.

Beth
Splattershot
Have fun playing with a new dye technique from Lorna’s Laces. Splattershot.
Beth will walk you through the process and you will end up with a skein of great looking yarn.

Shepherd Sock
100gram skein
395m (430 yards)
80% superwash merino
20% nylon

Class Fee: $40

Julie
Find Your Fade
Find Your Fade is one of the hottest patterns on Ravelry right now.

Starting at a single point and growing, shifting and fading into a piece that begs to be wrapped up in. This asymmetrical triangle shawl uses some clever increasing and decreasing, combined with relaxing garter stitch and simple lace so that you have a fun-to-knit canvas to play with mixing colors on! This shawl is all about making it your own. Let your creativity shine!!

Julie has completed two shawls and the yarn is set aside for more. It is a fun knit and you are finished before you know it.

Bring your skeins of hand dyed fingering weight yarn and we will play putting together colour combinations. We’ll have a yarn swap - maybe your neighbour has the perfect colour for your shawl.

In class we will discuss

-using more than 7 colours

-making the shawl smaller

-tips and tricks to make the knitting easier

Saturday Afternoon Workshops

Fiona
Dropped Stitches
Fiona’s latest technique fascination is with creating openwork by means of dropped stitches. In this workshop you will learn how to add them to your projects, how to have them meander and work around shaping and then go on to look at adding hand embroidery to the panels.

Sunday Morning Workshops

Fiona
Button Up and Zip It
We all love cardigans but finding the right fastenings can be a problem plus the finishing and /or bands can make or break a project. So this class will offer an overview of how to pick up stitches for the bands and working buttonholes. Then students will try their hand at making froging or button loops with I-cord. For those times when it seems impossible to find a button that works, there will also be an opportunity to try a couple of examples of buttons made from yarn so that they match the project exactly. Fiona will also give a demo of how to set in a zipper to a cardigan front for that sporty look.

Beth
Have fun with Dye
This is a class for students who've taken a dying class with Beth earlier in Camp or at a previous Camp. You will have the option to dye a mini skein pack (5 mini skeins of Shepherd Sock) or full skeins of Shepherd Sock.

Try mixing Splattershots with solid patches.
Dye a mini skein kit with different Splattershots.
Dye another mini skein kit after taking the class on Friday
Did you take Find your Fade on Saturday? Dye a skein to go into your shawl.

Have fun!

Class Fee: this will depend on the yarn that you choose

Julie
Tips and Tricks
We'll work through tips and tricks that will help you with your knitting. Little things that you might not think of but once you know them they will change the way you knit. These tips will help to give your finished garments a polished look.

Swatching. Increases and decreases. Finishing. Blocking. Working from charts. These are just some of the topics we will discuss in class.
