At Pete’s Place we served almost 66,000 meals this year. Kinder folks might call our kitchen “intimate.” But for our volunteers who spend countless hours here, running into each other at every turn, it’s just too darn small. We also need more food preparation areas and storage spaces and a better hand-washing sink in order to provide hot, nourishing meals to those experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness.
While we’re at it, there are plans for an outdoor awning to protect our guests from the elements, a new sign and other improvements (listed below) to tackle this summer.
THE KITCHEN RENOVATION IS FUNDED BY A $75,000 GRANT FROM THE EUGENE V. AND CLARE E. THAW CHARITABLE TRUST. MEET OUR MATCH SO ALL OUR IMPROVEMENTS CAN HAPPEN.
OUR “TO DO” LIST FOR THE INTERIOR:
Kitchen enlarged and improved.
Guest luggage area remodeled and updated.
Family sleeping area added.
More storage for the Community Closet added.
Common areas and hallways painted; cracked windows replaced.
AND FOR THE EXTERIOR:
A permanent awning with built-in heating to protect guests from the elements in the outdoor patio.
Improved signage, including digital capabilities to communicate our message to guests and the community.
Storage area added for guest belongings.
Improvements to the kennel area for our guests’ pets.
Shade trees in the outdoor common area and along the fence on Cerrillos Road.
Fence surrounding Pete’s Place painted a more neutral, welcoming color.
We have the plans. We’re ready to begin the work. We want you to be our partner in these exciting plans to improve Pete’s Place for our guests, staff and volunteers!
ICS is grateful for a $75,000 commitment from the Eugene V. and Clare E. Thaw Charitable Trust! But we need twice that amount. Please help us Meet our Match to reach our goal of $150,000.
