Pastor's Devotional...

One commentator describes the story in Genesis 26 of Isaac re-digging the wells his father Abraham dug (only to be clogged up by enemies) as an eternal parable. Lots of lessons are hidden in parable/stories.
- The water beneath the debris was still life giving. (“As the deer pants for the living waters, so my soul longs for You, O God.” Psalm 42:1; Jesus promised us living water.) It’s easier to clear debris than to dig out the hard packed soil. Have you inherited a well from biological or spiritual parents that is clogged by tradition, ritual or the broken vessel of a life marred by sin? Clear the debris or dig anew?
- Envious neighbors who had clogged the wells in the first place now reclaimed the newly cleared versions. Remember Jesus saying, “If forced to go one mile (impressed into involuntary duty to carry a Roman soldier’s cloak), go an extra mile… turn the other cheek.” Isaac lived out that truth when he simply moved on, ceding the valuable wells rather than contest their ownership. (He named them “opposition” and “dispute”.) This lesson was taken to heart and applied by his sons; Jacob patiently endured his father-in-law’s manipulation and trickery to become wealthy and Esau forgave Jacob’s theft of his inheritance.
Fathers and children of fathers, model your faith and dig through the debris of inherited faith to slake your thirst with living water.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for the paternal models of faith that have inspired and re-invigorated my faith. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Please keep our Sunday band members in your prayers. This past week one of them tested positive for COVID. Fortunately, he has been social-distancing because of a pre-existing medical condition and did not put any of our Quest church attenders at risk. As a precautionary measure we will use a different worship team for this coming Sunday. The band member is not experiencing any symptoms of the virus. Please pray for his quick recovery.
