Pastor's Devotional...
September 10, 2020

“Happy is the one who seizes your infants and bashes them against rocks.” Psalm 137:9 Wow, now there’s a lovely thought!
I just recently was reminded of the concept, imprecatory Psalms, referring to Psalmists calling on God to curse their enemy.
C.S. Lewis struggled with these seemingly contradictory expressions, calling such verses “devilish”. What to make of them? Pastor, counselor, and author Brian Kary Calls Psalms the “deepest psycho-spiritual literature of the last 3,000 years.” The purpose behind calling down God as curses, complaining bitterly to God, accusing Him of abandoning the writer (Jesus cited one such verse on the cross, “Why have you forsaken me?”) is to help process negative emotions instead of denying, suppressing and eventually succumbing to them with destructive actions.
As Andy Rooney used to say in closing “60 Minutes”, “I like that!” God already knows my negative thoughts and emotions; He expects and responds to honesty. If ventilating hurtful feelings to a professional counselor is therapeutic, how much more so to the Wonderful Counselor!
What’s bubbling below the surface in your soul; fear, anger, resentment, etc. He already knows it; why not try acknowledging, facing, naming and submitting it to Him?
Holy Spirit, that which is festering in my innermost self, I “cast my cares on the Lord.” (Psalm 55:22), don’t let me fall, sustain me. I entrust it all to you. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Be sure to "like" and "share" the devotionals and sermons posted to Facebook. It is a wonderful way to share the message of hope. https://www.facebook.com/531374767024068/videos/594678304802249

How about a laugh or two!
I saw a leaf that was in the shape of a chicken. Apparently it's from a "poultree".

I asked my cat what was two minus two. He said nothing.
