Pastor's Devotional...
March 7, 2019

It’s rough enough when a setback is your own fault but when it’s caused by someone else, that seems even more galling somehow! It’s like having someone else to blame somehow means I don’t have to accept responsibility for making the comeback! Convoluted logic for sure!
Joseph’s journey from favored son to being sold into slavery by his brothers, then unfairly thrown into jail due to a false accusation, to being forgotten by folks he helped who could’ve returned the favor, to a promotion making him second only to Pharaoh contradicts the above convoluted thinking.
How did he hang in there for a comeback?
  • He was resilient because of God’s presence. Five times in the story we read, “The Lord was with Joseph.” If you’re “going through it” right now, remember God took Joseph from slavery through prison to Pharaoh’s palace and He’ll carry you through also.
  • Joseph depended on God’s promises made to him as a small boy. Those same promises (“to do you good…to give you hope…” Jeremiah 29:11) are extended to you and me also. Claim them, look for them, expect God to keep them!
  • Joseph relied on God’s help to counsel Pharaoh and others, thus winning favor. Rely on God’s wisdom seen in Scripture and received through the input of others. Know you will have God’s favor that leads to favor with others.
Prayer: Holy Spirit, grant resilience and perseverance for me or a loved one just “hanging in there.” Help claim that wonderful promise “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” In His Name, Amen.
