Art in untraditional places
The frames of the MEETINGS festival 2019 - like the festival in 2017 - will be a number of places where you do not usually meet art. We are therefore looking for suitable outbuildings, barns, stables, sheds, abandoned houses etc. primarily around Nissum Fjord. These places would be anchors of the project in the area's distinctive character. In this way, the festival, in addition to the artistic experiences, can offer an unusual meeting with places that you usually do not have access to or would ever think of visiting. A couple of repeaters from 2017 are already plotted, for example the old school in Nees and the former grocery and feed store in Staby, and new ones are being looked for. The author Malte Tellerup will guide us through his personal meeting with the different sites, which you can read in the festival program.

Art about ‘the site’ and ‘the meeting’
10 international artists create new works for MEETINGS 2019 based on their meeting with various locations around Nissum Fjord. In addition, a large number of video and performance works will be presented, which also relate in various ways to ‘the site’ and ‘the meeting’, but which are produced in another context. Here you can experience new works by a few artists that we have previously been able to meet in the ET4U context: Agnes B. Tiffon (NO / FR), Derek M. Besant (CA), Jean-Léon Pallandre (FR) and Jette Ellgaard (DK). And you can look forward to getting acquainted with artists that we have not previously seen in Central and West Jutland, such as Baha AbuShanab (PLE), Karel van Laere (NL), Wuon-Gean Ho (UK), Jacob Cartwright & Nick Jordan (UK), Arjen de Leeuw & Walter van Broekhuizen (NL) and others.
MEETINGS info:
MEETINGS: is a 4-year video and performance project taking place in Central and West Jutland, Denmark. We invite international artists for residences, and here they create new video and performance works dealing with, taking place in, and produced in the meeting with the local area. The works are new and artistic reflections on the area seen from the outside. MEETINGS creates art related to where we live, and the works are shown in untraditional places and locations around Nissum Fjord.
FESTIVAL: MEETINGS includes two festivals - the first festival took place in September 2017, and the other festival opens officially in Thorsminde on August 30 and lasts until September 8, 2019. The festival presents the new video and performance works that are produced for MEETINGS. In addition, the festival presents a number of works also relating to "the site" and "the meeting", but seen from other corners of the world than Central and West Jutland. MEETINGS invites for an open symposium in Thorsminde from 29 August to 2 September, 2019.
ADMISSION: There is free access to all events. Board and lodging at the symposium is paid for.
ORGANIZED by: The ET4U Association in collaboration with a number of associations, institutions, communities and individuals in Central and West Jutland.
SUPPORT: MEETINGS is supported financially by the Cultural Agreement for Central and Western Jutland 2015-19, Lemvig Municipality, Central Denmark Region, European Capital of Culture Aarhus 2017, The Obel Family Foundation, The Danish Arts Foundation, 3F's Media and Culture Fund, and private sponsors.
