Along the way, Vickie met her husband Hugh, a McCaysville, Georgia native, and graduate of Young Harris College and UGA. They spent 15+ years in Acworth GA, planning to retire to the mountains. They found their piece of Hayesville heaven in 2013, then built a house and moved here fulltime in 2016.
After just two weeks unpacking, Hugh and Vickie took in one of CCCRA's Friday night concerts. When then-president Sandy Nicolette came to collect for the "red bucket", Vickie asked "do you need any help"? By the next Friday, Vickie was helping set-up for the concert and selling beverages in the "beer garden". In short-order, Vickie was building CCCRA's new website and was elected to the board that October. The following year she was elected Secretary, and for the last two years wore both VP and Secretary hats.
Besides CCCRA, Vickie also volunteers at her church - Immaculate Heart of Mary, is treasurer for her neighborhood's POA, and lends her computer skills to other groups in the area. She and Hugh adopted cats Gus and Grace two years ago.
Vickie is thankful that Clay County is full of folks that don't sit around and say "someone ought to...", but instead give generously of their time and talent to making Clay County a wonderful place to live.
