There are two important matters on the virtual meeting agenda. Current members are asked to cast your ballots for a new director for the Board and the 2021 officers, and approve updates to the CCCRA By-Laws.  Voting is easy and you have two ways to cast your ballot:

Program Updates! 
 
Every year at the Annual Gathering we update you on our key programs.  Although we've been socially distant most of the year, and due to the pandemic had to cancel the CCCRA Friday Concert Series and the Cherokee Heritage Festival, we haven't been idle!   Read on! 


Historic Courthouse Committee
 
  • The Beal Center is currently home to a special Blue Ridge National Heritage Area Craft Trail exhibit.
  • Fundraising for the Beal Center using social media and targeted mailings netted $1800.
  • Developed Self-Guided Tour  which provides visitors insight to the historic courthouse and its restoration. 
  • Board Member Dorothy Ethridge and super-volunteer Ann Price revamped the Beal Center Gift Shop. Now featuring works by local artists, gift baskets and vintage gifts. 
  • Grew the collection of historic pictures and artifacts in the History Room.  (Donation of your pieces are welcome.)
  • Improved the historic courthouse grounds using grant from Town of Hayesville. 
  • Partnered with Western Carolina University on a Capstone Internship for local Master's candidate Brooke Reynolds.
  • Offered special "COVID" rates for grounds usage and small internal gatherings.  
Did you know that the Americans with Disabilities Act celebrated 30 years this July? At the Beal Center, we are extremely proud to be fully ADA compliant. Call us with any questions on how we can accommodate you or your guests. (828) 415-1623


Trails & Greenways
 
 
  • Awarded Recreational Trails Program grant for expansion of the Jackrabbit Trail System.  (Construction expected to begin in Spring '21.)
  • Thanks to fundraising efforts and generous donors, a Bike Washing Station was purchased for installation in the spring. 
  • Jackrabbit was the site for the Big Ring Challenge in September, with a record-setting sold-out attendance of mountain bikers. 
  • SABA volunteers logged 578 hours of trail maintenance in the last twelve months!  
  • Collaborated with Town of Hayesville on a NCDOT grant  for Clay County to develop a county trails plan.  
  • Board Member Joanna Padgett-Atkisson addressed the Lake Chatuge and Hayesville Rotary Club, covering the trails program.


Cherokee Culture
 
  • CCCRA Members Jim and Star Glock donated an incredible collection of  Native American art to CCCRAThe pieces will be displayed on a rotating basis at the Beal Center, Moss Memorial Library and the Old Jail Museum. 
  • Submitted grant application to commission a life-sized figure of a young Cherokee hunter  for  the Cherokee Culture Center at the library. 
  • Board Member Rob Tiger partnered with USFS Archaeologist Scott Ashcraft to survey the upper Hiwassee River for petroglyphs. 
  • Performed general maintenance on the Quanassee Path. 
  • Commissioned repairs for the thatched roof for the Cherokee Homestead Exhibit Winter House.
