September 2020 Newsletter

 "Falling"
2020 sure can make one feel like you're fallingFalling out of touch with friends, family and community.  Falling out of your routines and missing out on your favorite hobbies and events.

At CCCRA, because of the pandemic, we missed seeing you at our Friday Concert Series and the Cherokee Heritage Festival.  We missed hosting your weddings and meetings at the Beal Center, and celebrations on the Square.

Beginning this Fall, we're hopeful the virus will fall away, we can let our masks fall down around our necks, and we can fall back to enjoying our Clay County traditions.
Beal Center  Reopens!

CCCRA is pleased to announce that the Historic Courthouse Beal Center has reopened to the public this Fall!  Visitors are welcome to take our new self-guided tour, view new exhibits, select a perfect keepsake  from our enhanced gift shop, and discuss hosting your future gathering at the Beal Center.  Open Thursday - Saturday, 10am -4pm.

(Masks and social distancing required, per NC COVID guidelines.)
CCCRA Members Only Receptions!

Due to the virus-related closures, we have not been able to host a single members' activity all year!  Now CCCRA is ready for Fall and ready for one of our favorite things - seeing you! We're inviting our members to join us at the Beal Center at one of our upcoming Members Only Receptions.  Please come say hello and see how we've stayed busy during the shutdown.

October 8th @ 2-4pm or October 10th @ 1-3pm.

As we are still limited to 25 visitors at a time, please RSVP by calling the Beal Center at (828) 415-1623.

Board Bytes

Get to know your CCCRA Board Member Kim Tigar

(Kim overlooking Machupicchu, Peru, in 2018)
CCCRA Treasurer Kim Tigar is a real North Carolinian. Born in Brevard and raised in Hendersonville, she also called Asheville home before falling under the spell of Hayesville. Starting with camping at Penland Point in 1997, she and husband Jim purchased a home here in 1999, and moved here full-time in 2014.

Working in accounting for over thirty years, Kim added Real Estate Broker to her resume in 2001, and now works at Advantage Chatuge Realty.  She keeps her accounting skills honed by lending her talents to CCCRA.  She is currently secretary for her homeowner's association, serving previously as President and Treasurer.  Kim has volunteered with
Clay County Food Pantry, Historic Hayesville Inc., Hayesville First United Methodist Church, Hope Cancer Center for Women, and various community clean-ups.  She has also served as secretary to the Clay County Chamber of Commerce.

Kim and Jim are extremely proud of their daughter, writer Lindsay Tigar, owner of Tigar Types, LLC in Boston MA.  Kim and Lindsay are very close and have taken mom/daughter trips to Paris, Rome, Portugal, Spain, Costa Rica, Peru and Mexico.  Their next big event will likely be a wedding as Lindsay recently became engaged to her  beau Ras, originally from Denmark.

When work, volunteering and travel allow her any free-time, Kim enjoys listening to music, dancing, gardening, walking, yoga, kayaking, mountain-biking, socializing with friends and family, visiting restaurants and posting funny jokes on Facebook.

Kim began volunteering with CCCRA in late 2018 because she likes sharing her gifts to build a strong, caring and prosperous community.   She said: "CCCRA is a well-run and respected organization with a dedicated board.  The board and volunteers are generous with their time and attention to help all of the projects grow and prosper.  I am proud to be a part of the CCCRA."  And we're proud to have Kim be a part of CCCRA!
