Entomology Collections Days

In September we started a new monthly drop-in session at World Museum. This gives recorders an opportunity, without booking, to access the collections, library, microscopes and our new imaging suite. We even provide tea, coffee and biscuits! Our final session of the year at World Museum is Thursday 20th December. Just meet us at reception at 10:30 or 13:30 and join us for all or part of the day.

Workshops

Thanks to funding from the Tanyptera Trust, we've been able to hold 26 invertebrate workshops in 2018 on a diverse range of taxonomic groups from earthworms to parasitic wasps, tutored by regional, national and international experts. Exactly 300 booked spaces have been taken up by participants of various experience levels.

For 2019, we have another exciting line-up of workshops with another blend of difficulty levels designed to offer something for a range of invertebrate specialisms. For example, there are repeated entry levels groups such as a 2-day course on dragonflies and damselflies; and a shieldbugs, grasshoppers and crickets day, through to more advanced courses for springtails and Mosquitoes. There is also a series of under-recorded groups that we haven't previously covered such as leafhoppers and centipedes. It is likely that more 2019 workshops will be organised early in the new year as resources permit and we welcome suggestions on under-recorded groups.

We have a new charging policy in 2019 offering a heavily subsided rate of £15 for a place on a 2-day workshop. All single day workshops remain free - the cost of running them 100% subsidised by the Tanyptera Trust. All monies raised from the 2-day workshops (except the VAT + £1 booking fee) will go back into the programme, enabling us to maximise the offer to recorders whilst maintaining the accessibility.

As a subscriber to our newsletter, you have a few days head start before we will start advertising our 2019 workshop programme to others.
