Hello City Roots friends!

We have big news! After some amazing organizing efforts by the City-Wide Tenants Union, City Roots CLT has recently acquired 7 new properties! Altogether, that's 3 single family homes, 16 rental units, and 3 commercial properties! This is not only a huge win for City Roots as well as our new lessee members, but also a huge win for Rochester! All of these properties are distressed, with a total of 261 code violations. As we begin the journey of transforming these unloved properties into democratic community homes & spaces, we're going to need feedback and support from our membership!

In the next few months, our main goal is to get all of the properties up to code, and clear all violations the properties may have. Once this process is complete, we will sell single family homes at an affordable price, and start rehabbing our rental properties (or potential limited equity co-ops!) We will be planning a bunch of committee meetings, volunteer days, and envisioning sessions for members to support this new work and the new lessee members we have.
Thank you to our funders and partners for recently awarding us with a few grants!
  • The RACF NeighborGood grant will give us the opportunity to landscape our current CLT homes with organic home gardens!
  • With the Climate Solutions Accelerator participatory grant process we've been awarded, we'll be able to make one of these 7 new properties completely energy efficient!
  • With the Enterprise Community Partners grant we've been awarded, we can bring more limited equity co-ops to life in Rochester!
Most importantly, thank you to our members for all of your dedication & support!

City Roots and the Solidarity Economy
Thursday, April 15 from 5:30-7:00 pm

We hold our general meeting on the Third Thursday of every month. This is a great time to catch up on what's been going on with the CLT, other members and supporters, and to ask questions!

At this month's General Meeting we're going to be discussing what's been going on in our Committees! We have 5 committees that are open to our members as well as the community. The committees are:
  • Outreach & Engagement
  • Policy  & Procedures
  • Advocacy
  • Stewardship
  • Fundraising
If you're interested in any of these committee's, please reach out to Anastajah at, or fill out a membership form online and choose which committee's you're interested in.

We'll also be giving a presentation on the Solidarity Economy, what it means, and how communities are working together to govern their communities!
Don't forget to join our Slack Family! We've added channels for all of our committees; Advocacy, Fundraising, Outreach & Engagement, Stewardship, and Policy & Governance. This way, our members can stay updated on what the CLT is currently working on, provide us with feedback, or share relevant news & information with your fellow members! Click here to join!*

The Beechwood Bike Repair Clinic has begun! City Roots CLT is happy to be one of the sponsoring organizations.

Get your bike repaired for free!

We're looking for some more volunteers to help out on Wednesdays from 4-7pm (no need to commit to every week). No bike repair experience? No problem! We can teach you how to fix a flat tire in no time. And folks can also help by doing things like signing in the 'customers', organizing supplies, or getting the basketball hoop set up.

Stop by, hang out, have fun!
Check out the folks who attended our 4th Annual Beechwood Bike Ride this past Saturday! This year's ride was co-organized by Beechwood Neighborhood Coalition and City Roots CLT. About 40 people turned out for a 4-mile ride around the Beechwood and EMMA neighborhoods followed by a picnic at Grand Ave Park. We were also able to give bicycles to 5 neighbors so that they could join the ride thanks to our partnership with R Community Bikes. It was a great time!
Here at City Roots CLT, we believe that housing is a basic human right. Access to affordable safe housing in the past year was absolutely critical, and a matter of life and death during a pandemic. We're calling on our members to support Metro Justice and the Campaign for New York Health.

The Campaign for New York Health is planning a major statewide day of action in Albany on Monday, June 7th. We call on you to join us! Everyone will reach Albany by 9:30 AM to begin actions by 11:00 AM and end actions in Albany by 4 PM.
