Come celebrate with us
online every Sunday
at 9:45 am

Hello Jubilants,

The phrase “Rooted and Grounded in Humility” may be redundant. Humility shares the same root as the word humus – not hummus, that yummy dip – but humus, the dark organic material of the soil. Celtic Spirituality leader John Philip Newell says, “The way of humility, of reconnecting to the humus, remembers the sacred Ground of being within us all.” This week we began the season of Lent with Ash Wednesday – a day we mark ourselves to remember, “Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.”

We’re told it takes a strong person to admit their mistakes – and that strength is humility. Humility is not about putting ourselves down, it’s about claiming the power of our own ground, and from that depth remembering that we are part of the universe – not the center of it. This week’s newsletter provides ways to stay grounded and claim our place in the eco-system, including our amazing community giving away $45,100 to local service organizations during the pandemic, Cathryn the Grateful's groovy new online dance parties, and some of the small steps we are taking to slowly and safely open up the Celebration Center at 46 Wall Street.

Let’s dig down to our humus and get Rooted and Grounded in Humility this week.

See you Sunday,

So Many Ways to Contribute & Connect

One of the most wonderful attributes of our community is its generosity, and it is really shining during this pandemic! Despite our inability to gather together in person and the stress of COVID, Jubilants' donations enabled our Outreach Giving program to gift a total of $45,100 to local service organizations feeding the hungry, housing the homeless, keeping folks warm this winter, and meeting other needs of local underserved communities. Read the report about the organizations served. During the first quarter of 2021, we are supporting Loving Food Resources, Hope Chest and All Souls Counseling. Last, but not least, our 2021 Pledge Campaign generated $199,000 in pledges...90% of the amount of pledges received last year. This level of giving in the pandemic is truly an amazing example of love in action. O'yeah!

Let's dance!  One of our favorite Jubilee! ministers, Cathryn Davis, minister of movement, aka Cathryn the Grateful, is holding twice weekly virtual dance parties...and you are invited. Thursdays at 11am and Mondays at 6pm, Cathryn is leading 45-50 minutes of guided movement starting slow and stretchy then building to energetic dance from her headquarters down in Charleston, SC. She says this embodied joyful workout for mind, body and spirit is great for all levels, ages and genders...and dancing barefoot is highly recommended!  It's not quite the same as marching down Wall Street playing the kazoo, but it's probably as close as we'll get during the pandemic!  Get details here.

Plans for the Labyrinth of Love on Valentines Day at Carrier Park were rained out last week, but that didn't deter us from walking the path of love. Jubilee!'s very own labyrinth expert, Johanna Manasse created a processional labyrinth right on the middle of the floor of our Celebration Center at 46 Wall Street. To give more people a chance to walk the labyrinth, it was left up until Ash Wednesday, when folks could also take time out for quiet prayer and the imposition of ashes. This was a great opportunity for Jubilants to safely enjoy the Celebration Center with its winter altar, walk the labyrinth, write prayers for the prayer wall, and light candles.  Small steps toward again gathering safely together...

Story Medicine Worldwide, founded by recent Jubilee! speaker Meta Commerse, presents three days of story telling, music, testimonials, Q&A and breakout rooms for telling your own story on  March 12th-14th.  Meta will speak about founding the concept of applying story medicine to racial healing at 6:30-8:30pm on opening day. Learn more register here.

Did you know you can save the chats at our weekly Sunday Celebrations?  When you are in the chat function, click on the three little dots at the bottom of your screen, and "save" will come up as an option.  When you click "save," chats are automatically saved to a Zoom subfolder in your Documents folder unless you have specified they be saved elsewhere.

We know it's not the same as filling the basket in person, but there are lots of different ways you can donate to Jubilee! and the Hunger Basket.  Please give as generously as you can!
