forloop Weekly

Hello there, and happy Sunday to you.

If you live in Nigeria, you've probably heard about the injustices meted out on young people in the form of extortion and assault, by members of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) and other members of the police, or been a victim yourself. Of these young people accosted and harassed by SARS teams, software developers make up a large number. Their gadgets (phones and laptops) are unlawfully searched or even taken, under the guise of suspicion that they are internet scammers or fraudsters. As a community, we believe that we must lend our voices to a movement that will reach the government for the protection of young people like you and me who are threatened in their own city. As an addition to the existing #EndSARS campaign, we'll be starting #StopRobbingUs specifically for us in the tech community who are extorted, assaulted, and unlawfully arrested by security operatives who should be protecting us. Join us as we amplify our voices against the police violence in Nigeria. Tweet your experience if you have any, and call on the attention of the government, using the hashtag, #StopRobbingUs. Even if you're outside Nigeria, it would mean a lot to us if you stood in solidarity too. Thank you as you speak up for our safety.
