February 2020 News

We're 4 days away!

First, THANK YOU to those who have signed up or helped to spread the word about our upcoming FREE family-friendly co-working social event on Saturday, February 22nd.

The location has been updated to 529 Gore Avenue and Pender in Chinatown, Vancouver. Huge thanks to GemHouse Vancouver for hosting us when we  unexpectedly had to change our venue.

We are looking for just 5 more BRAVE people willing to volunteer to be interviewed on video. Please sign up here for a slot with the fabulous (and nice!) Sarah Howell of Dream Bravely. Why is this important? In addition to showing what Nestworks would ideally look like, we need real voices from parents and other adults living and working in Vancouver who can say in their words why it's so important for Nestworks to open. And it's important we meet our crowdfunding goal so that it happens!

Other reminders:
  • If you require childminding please sign up here for a spot. Space is very limited- but if your desired time is taken, you're still welcome to be at the event with your child. All parents with children in care must remain on-site, and parents will be summoned to manage feeding and diaper change needs as necessary.
  • Nestworks Board members will be present - come with your questions and ideas!
  • Let us know how you can help with crowdfunding-related tasks as we gear up for our campaign at the end of March.
  • We require image release for all attendees.
  • Paid parking is close to the venue; limited free spots may also be available in the area.

RSVP ASAP here: http://nestworks-social.eventbrite.ca

Many thanks for your support as we work to create Nestworks.

Madeleine and the Nestworks team
Can't make the event? Be part of our crowdfunding campaign.

If you'd like to volunteer your time to help with the campaign but can't make it in person on February 22nd, reply to this e-mail or sign up here to let us know how you can contribute! We're looking for people knowledgeable in running crowdfunding campaigns, photographers, launch event planners, venues, food & drink providers, and anyone who can help us spread the word when the campaign goes live on March 31st.

Kitchen Table Chat with Christine Pilkington

This month, we chat with Christine Pilkington, the CEO of Crisp Media Inc, which develops digital marketing strategies for businesses.

What is your professional background and current role?

I am the Publisher of VancouverMom.ca and owner of Crisp Media, a media and marketing company specializing in digital and content marketing.
I have worked in digital media for over 20 years including a stint as a director at Rogers Media in Toronto. I’m a huge advocate for women in business and women in technology.

What are 3-6 words that describe you?

Fun loving, creative, adventurous!

What is your experience with managing parenting and your professional life?

I went into business so I could manage parenting alongside a professional life. The core motivation to start my business 10 years ago was to raise my kids and maintain a professional career. At the time, it was untenable to have a full-time job and find any balance between parenting and career.

I enjoy connecting with other parents running a business and have found a community of people who are empathetic to the challenges of parenting and running a business.

What excites you the most about the idea of Nestworks, a family-friendly workspace?

The community building and the connections you can make with other like-minded entrepreneurs! It can be isolating working at home as a mompreneur – whereas Nestworks seems to bridge both of those things where you can be in a community of people who just get it.

Anything else you'd like to share?

I am always looking for ways to support women through my business. Each year at VancouverMom.ca, we create our VMTop30, a list of Vancouver’s Top 30 influencers, to promote and engage with local moms who are trying to supplement income by becoming an influencer.

Leading Moms is our other signature event where local moms can join in for a day at an event similar to TED Talks to hear inspirational stories of moms who are successfully balancing parenting and career.

Thank you for chatting with us, Christine!
