We have some very exciting news! Our new podcast, Bear 148, is being featured by Apple podcasts this week alongside other made-in-Canada podcasts.

We're also ranked No. 4 for 'news and politics' podcasts in Canada right now. If you haven't checked it out yet, listen now.

Now, here's a tale of serendipity for you. I was in Banff about a year ago helping to train young scientists on how to talk to the media — and so was Molly Segal.

Molly and I hit it off immediately. Shortly after meeting, we went for coffee and she told me about an audio documentary she was thinking about making about Banff's beloved Bear 148, who'd died tragically a year earlier. It sounded like a perfect fit for The Narwhal — and, just like that, our first podcast was born in a coffee shop in downtown Banff.

It turned out Molly was a bit of a superstar. The Banff-based radio journalist was already making audio documentaries for CBC and NPR. This May Molly was named as a Knight Science Journalism Fellow, alongside top journalists from around the world.

We are thrilled to have her mad skills showcased in the telling of the life and death of Bear 148.
