Loreto Highlights Update - 11th March 2022
Year 4 have been learning about India in their Geography lessons. This week, we have explored a little of the Indian culture. We were shown beautiful items of clothing and tried some Indian food. We watched some of our older pupils dance, even trying to learn some dance moves ourselves.
We had a wonderful session bursting with colour and smiles all round.
Sustainable Chips
This week our Year 6 Gardening Club extracted potatoes grown from the potato cuttings they had previously planted.  The pupils decided to make oven chips and wedges, washing then peeling some of the potatoes before placing in the oven to cook.  The fresh, plant to plate sustainable chips were crisp and tasted lovely with some tomato ketchup!
International Women's Day
Girl power as our girls excelled in their Physical Education lesson this week where they played football and hockey.  Our staff came together to take a few photographs.

Faith Diary
As we continue our Lenten journey, this Sunday’s Gospel recounts the experience of three of the disciples on their journey to Jerusalem. Jesus leads them up to a high mountain to pray, but while he prays, the disciples fall asleep. They wake to find Jesus totally transfigured. His face and clothing are a dazzling white and they see a vision of him conversing with Moses and Elijah. The true glory of their familiar Jesus is revealed to them in that moment and they hear God’s voice saying ‘This is my Son, the Chosen One, listen to him’. This gospel challenges all the easy labels that many people use to dismiss Jesus as merely an inspiring teacher, a prophet, a compassionate healer, a friend of the poor…. He is of course all these things, but through this experience, the disciples come to understand, as we must, that he is much, much more than we could ever comprehend, define or even imagine. He is no less than the Son of God himself, whose full glory will be revealed to them and all the world at Easter.
Year 3
Literacy: Year 3 pupils used the recipe for Frobscottle as inspiration for writing their own BFG recipes.  Ingredients for ‘The Fizzy Pie’ consisted of 50 teeth, 10 lips, 7 eyes, 4 litres of blood and 2 Snozzcumbers. Mix altogether and then sprinkle with crushed bones. Cook in the oven for 9 hours and voila – your fizzy pie is ready. How magnificently disgusting!
Geography: Year 3 have been learning about how to survive a volcanic eruption as part of their Geography work on Volcanoes. The class talked about different types of eruptions, and they learned about harmful substances that escape when a volcano erupts. We looked at images of a town near a volcano and discussed the issues the people in this town would face if the volcano erupted. Survival tips included making a disaster plan, having a bag packed with some clothes to keep skin covered and saving water in your bath or basin
House Awards
This Thursday, Upper Primary pupils were presented with certificates and prizes in the fortnightly House Points Assembly.  Well done to all the pupils who have achieved a new milestone on their Road to Success.
Coding Crazy!
Year 6 pupils have started to excel in using the Micro:bit hardware this week.  Some of the pupils have been able to code and construct devices to detect if a plant requires watering, a pedometer, a two-way messaging service and a hot potato game the pupils played at break time.  We have a cohort of budding coding stars in the making!
Year 1
Learning about reptiles and fish as part of their science lessons.
Representing Gibraltar
Jasper & Stefan have been selected from a small group of elite boys to represent Gibraltar in football.  The boys have been selected to play on behalf of the Gibraltar Football Association, against Spanish teams.
