Loreto Highlights Update - 23rd September 2022
International Day of Peace
The United Nations International Day of Peace is celebrated on September 21st each year to recognise the efforts of those who have worked hard to end conflict and promote peace. It is a day of global ceasefire-personal and political.
At Loreto Convent School, the day is celebrated with the wider community. Our aim is to inspire everyone to think creatively and collectively on how to strengthen the ideals of peace.
Education has been touted as one of the most powerful tools we can implement in our global efforts to promote world peace.
Pupils in Year 6 have worked hard to prepare a Peace Service to mark the occasion. Representatives from different faiths in our community came to share with our pupils in verse, dance, song and prayer. The service took place in our Palm Tree playground where our Peace Pole - a symbol of the oneness of humanity and our common wish for a world of Peace- takes a prominent position.
There are 250,000 peace poles in the World, at the Pentagon, Machu Pichu, Peru, in Bethlehem and here at Loreto Convent- the only one in Gibraltar. It holds the message – May Peace prevail on Earth.
Letter of thanks from His Excellency Sir David Steel, Governor of Gibraltar.
Nursery 2 celebrated International Day of Peace by making a mural together and colouring a picture.
Fantastic Foundation Stage 2!
Foundation Stage 2 have been having fun learning about squares. They have also started building words and blending sounds to make 'sat'.
A Tribute To Queen Elizabeth II
We have included our video once again this week as it has received over 3,000 views across social media platforms. Our Year 6 pupils have recorded a song called 'Sing' in our School Chapel, paying tribute to the passing of Queen Elizabeth II on behalf of the Loreto Convent School community.

Well done to pupils in Lower Primary and Foundation Stage who were presented with their Gold Award certificates and gold pencils.

Year 3 pupils have created a beautiful display of colourful hands to represent the hands of Jesus and the importance of the human and divine touch in communicating compassion and mercy.

The Loreto Sustainable School Committee (LSSC) continue to meet at least once a week with the aim of promoting all things sustainable in our school. With Tess the Turtle as the mascot, this group of environmentally-aware pupils plan activities based on raising awareness of the effects of climate change with other pupils. If your child is in years 5 or 6, they may join the club which is held on Tuesday lunchtimes in the Science room.
