Loreto Highlights Update - 06th May 2022
Lenten Reflections
During Lent a group of Year 5 pupils decided to give up part of their Friday lunchtime to spend time in prayer and reflection in the school chapel together with Ms Lombard and Mrs Pitto. Pupils reflected on the Stations of the Cross and prayed for different intentions every Friday. The pupils commented on how special the experience was and they wish to continue meeting and praying this term.
Tuck Shop
The Year 6 pupils have launched a new Tuck Shop.  They are gaining real life experience in practising their mental maths, calculating the cost of products then working out the change required.
Year 1 Maths
We have been using different mathematical equipment such as money, numicon, dienes blocks, beads and tens frames to make 2-digit numbers as part of our place value work.

First Holy Communion Preparations
On Tuesday morning Father Paul came to speak to those pupils preparing for their First Holy Communion.
He went through all the responses of the mass.
Father Paul also spoke to them about the Consecration and the importance of receiving Jesus.
He explained that when we receive Holy Communion, we remember how much Jesus loves us.
We say Amen which is the same as saying ‘Yes. I do believe.’ We welcome Jesus and thank him for coming to us.
Giving Gardens
Emily and Luna, both Year 6 pupils who attend the School Gardening Club have finished their flowerpot project.  They came up with an idea to place brightly coloured flower pots around the Foundation Stage playground. After sourcing the pots, they grew flowers from seed and drilled holes in the pots for water drainage. They then lined their pots and planted their flower seedlings. The girls then attached the plant pots to a pergola frame. The pots look great and are all set for the flowers to blossom.
Sponge Bob
Class 4W have thoroughly enjoyed their science lessons with our trainee teacher, Mr Earle.  Here we see the pupils working carefully and precisely, reinforcing their practical skills, to see how much air is in different sponges.
School Photo
Two thirds through this academic year and here we are having our annual school photo.  Past Loreto pupils love trying to spot themselves on the photographs around the school.  Say cheese!!
Greek Temples
The pupils in Year 4 have been working on a team project to create their own Greek temple models. They planned and designed their models carefully thinking about the different materials they would need for the different components of their temples.
With the help of their teachers, they used the very popular hot glue gun carefully and responsibly which, for some, was an entirely new experience.
A fun activity which they all enjoyed! They loved designing a product and working in a team.
Yummy Honey
It has been a few years in the making, our Gardening Club have been lucky enough to look at some frames of honey form the school beehives. Mr Taylor and Mr Devincenzi-Clemens taught the pupils about how the frames are developed, along with then uncapping the honey and processing the honey by hand.  Unfortunately, there was not enough honey to spin the frames, so it was good old fashioned manual work.  It's a first! Loreto are the first school in Gibraltar to have their own small scale honey production.  The next stage is to learn about using the wax to make some candles or lip balm products.
Gold Book
Well done to pupils in Lower Primary and Foundation Stage 2 who were presented with their Gold Award certificates and gold pencils.
Israel Independence Day
Uri and his family celebrated Israel Independence Day on Thursday. To mark the country’s 74th Independence Day, Uri kindly brought in delicious sesame halva snacks to share with the class. We watched some videos about Israel which highlighted its outstanding beauty, vibrant cultural scene and urban life. Uri prepared and then presented a very engaging and interactive PowerPoint about Israel to the class. He was very proud of the fact that Israel is an innovative leader in science and high-tech. Thank you Uri for teaching us a little about Israel; a country with fascinating history with a rainbow of cultures and traditions.
Ministry of Defence Visit
Today we had the pleasure of welcoming Mr Russell Collier from the Global Educational Team for the British children of parents who are in the Ministry of Defence.  Mr Collier received a tour of the school and spoke with some of the pupils who have parents posted in Gibraltar.
