Loreto Highlights Update - 6th July 2022
Academic Awards 2021/2022
Our final academic awards assembly was held on Thursday, it was a close run thing.  Firstly, pupils were awarded their milestone certificates and prizes for the last time by the House Captains.  It was then time for the big reveal, looking at the end totals it was still very close.
  • In fourth place with 9514 house points was St. Anne's.
  • In third place with 10017 house points was St. Catherine's.
  • In second place with 10505 house points  was St. Joan's.
  • In first place and our 2021/2022 Academic winners with 11058 points was St. Philomena's.
Well done to all our pupils for working hard to earn House points this year.  Whether by learning, work ethic, being a responsible member of the school community or participating in house competitions every point has been well deserved.
Sports Awards 2021/2022
During an assembly for Year 3 – Year 6 pupils, we presented our end of term sports awards. Pupils sat in their Houses waiting to hear the results of the individual and team sports awards.
  • Sports Girl of the Year 2021/2022: Sofia Simpson
  • Runner Up Sports Girl of the Year 2021/2022: Amber Weir
  • Sports Boys of the Year 2021/2022: Daniel Cruz Ruiz and Joe Garcia Orellana
  • Runner Up Sports Boy of the Year 2021/2022: Jacobo Hernandez Corcoles
  • Basketballer of the Year 2021/2022: Ben Lejeune
  • Swimmer of the Year 2021/2022: Nina Dittmair-Werkmann
  • Road Racer of the Year 2021/2022: Hugo Lawrence
  • Spirit of Sport Award 2021/2022: Matthew Ghio
The Road Racing Cup was won by St Anne’s, with St Philomena’s giving them a run for their money. However, it was the Sports Shield which was incredibly closely contested. St Anne’s and St Catherine’s battled it out for top spot right until the end with the difference being only five sports house points. The winners of the Sports Shield 2021/2022 were St Anne’s!
LSSC Fundraising Event
The LSSC pupils held a fundraiser at school this week, raising money for one of our favourite charities - The Nautilus Project. Items-made out of recycled and upcycled materials such as dog toys, bookmarks, bracelets and plants were on sale.  Pupils from years 4-6 were also able to buy cakes and participate in various games including giant chess, 'pin the rubbish on the bin' and 'throw rubbish in the right bin'. Lewis and Melanie Stagnetto from TNP popped into school to receive the money raised at this event - a whopping £320. Congratulations to all the pupils involved and many thanks to all the parents for supporting the group once again, especially those who contributed to the very popular cake stall!!
Final Mass Of The Year
The whole school community gathered in the Kusuma Sports Hall as Monsignor Paul Bear celebrated Mass on the Feast of St. Peter and St. Paul.  This was the last religious celebration of the academic year.
Volcanoes
It was class 5V's turn to present their volcanoes to the rest of the class. We witnessed some great eruptions, thoroughly enjoying the afternoon.
Traffic Free Tuesday
The South District pupils (a few missing from this photo) have walked to school as a group every Tuesday this year supporting Loreto's Traffic Free Tuesday initiative which started, with some of these pupils, three years ago. Come rain or shine, these champions for the environment, have been part of the Loreto Sustainable School Committee and we are proud of their commitment to making Loreto an environmentally friendly school. Flamenco Dance
Our Spanish Dance teacher and pupils performed for the rest of the school.  The parents of the dancers were invited to attend and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the Flamenco.
Shirt Signing
Our Year 6 pupils held a shirt signing session where pupils and staff could write messages or sign an old school shirt.
Time Capsule
Hermione in year 6 has created a time capsule.  Pupils in Year 6 were asked to write a message about their time at Loreto in 2022 for someone in the future who might dig up the time capsule.  I wonder how many years it will be buried in the school garden?
Year 6 Leavers Song
Lyrics to this song have been written by our Year 6 pupils.
