Online Parents Evening This week we held our very first online parent teacher consultation evening. A new experience, for all it has been a triumphant success with parents being able to talk via video link directly with their child's class teacher. We have had some lovely comments, including "Many thanks to the teachers for the parent meetings they went perfectly and fantastic timing". We welcome all parents who booked an appointment to complete our short survey for feedback.
Bookmark Competition Winner The annual Bookmark Competition was organised on behalf of the Ministry of Culture by Gibraltar Cultural Services and the Gibraltar Dyslexia Support Group. The competition attracted a total of 243 entries. The Minister for Culture, the Hon Prof John Cortes, presented the awards at a closed event on Tuesday 10th November 2020. We were delighted that Amabel won the bookmark competition for years 3 to year 6 for her design pictured below, well done.
Faith Diary We often tend to focus on the resources and talents that we perceive ourselves and others to lack, rather than concentrating on making the best use of the ones we have. This can sometimes make us feel inadequate, yet each one of us has unique and valuable God-given gifts. This week’s Gospel reminds us that we are expected to put these to good use in His service and for the good of others, rather than letting them go to waste for fear of making mistakes.
Ex Pupils Golf Champions Loreto past pupils Irene García Sánchez and Sebastian Desoisa were crowned Champions of Andalucía this past weekend. It was a team event with both Irene and Sebastian part of the same team, alongside 2 other golfers from Alcaidesa. These two golf stars continue to work hard and train hard even during these difficult times and are showing us all what they are made of. The future is looking very bright! Congratulations Irene and Sebastian, all of us at Loreto are very proud of you!

We Remember Teachers and pupils in Upper Primary School years 5 and 6 observed a two-minute silence on Wednesday 11th November at 11 am to commemorate Armistice Day. We thought about the soldiers who have lost their lives to fight for the peace we now live in. We are truly thankful.
Year 3 created a beautiful poppy display to pay tribute to those who lost their lives in conflict. They also observed a two-minute silence as part of Remembrance Day.
Class 5V created a poppy display for Remembrance Day.
Time For Technique Year 4 have continued with their Badminton lessons and are coming on in leaps and bounds, playing matches and helping with umpiring too. This week they have been learning about the forehand serve and the advantages of using this serve during matches.
This serve is not an easy one, but with some hard work and resilience, Year 4 are getting the hang of it.
Childline Childline came to visit Year 3 where they delivered an art lesson which taught the children how to express their emotions through art, shapes and colour. Initially they were taught how to draw sad, angry and happy faces using different techniques. Using materials provided, the children were then asked to design their own face based on how they were feeling at that moment. Pupils were then presented with an ‘Art Workshop – Expressing Emotions’ certificate which explained how they had successfully participated in the lesson.
Year 1 have been learning their digraphs. This is our work on the ‘ch’ sound.
Exploring Charism Mrs Napoli and Mrs Breen attended a symposium ‘Exploring Charism’ this week.
Organised by Sister Patricia Goodstadt IBVM, who is Chair of Loreto Education Trust in England, this was the first in a series of webinar presentations and meetings. We, like other Loreto schools, have worked hard to establish fully our Vision for Education based on Mary Ward’s vision and values, and to ensure it is embedded in all our school and in our teachers.
Over 100 leaders in education from all over the world joined the symposium to share ideas and challenges from the many different orders which are helping all of us to be even more conscious of the opportunities we can take to ensure that the charism of Mary Ward (is embedded now and) will live on in future generations.
We look forward to future meetings and to sharing the thoughts of educators from around the world with Loreto staff.
