Loreto Highlights Update - 16th October 2020
First Holy Communion
This week the last of our children in class 4C celebrated their First Holy Communion at Saint Joseph's Church. The service was again officiated by Msgr. Paul Bear and was very much an intimate affair with only parents and siblings present.  The children walked up the aisle to their pews gracefully and accompanied by a selection of beautiful and emotive hymns, reading clearly sending a strong message that they understood the importance of the sacrament they were about to receive.
Faith Diary
In this Sunday’s Gospel we see the Pharisees once more trying to trap Jesus in the maze of Pharisaic law but, as always, he turns the tables on them and uses the opportunity to give us a concise summary of Gods’ law and of his entire mission.
Friday of this week sees the feast of Saint Pope John Paul II - a very special Pope who had a great influence on the church and on the world.
This link might help if you would like to discuss him with your child.
Police Online Safety Leaflet
Following on from the year 6 Online Safety talk last week, PC Peach would like to make this leaflet available to all parents to look at with their children.  Our Neighbourhood Police officer is always on hand to support parents should the need arise.
Parent's Weekly Focus
This week's online safety focus for parents is about 'Online Gaming'.  Here you can find information to help understand the risks and measures that can be implemented.  You will also find useful parent support guides for the games console manufacturers.
Ballooning Badminton
Years 3 & 4 have started to learn about Badminton and were able to move on to tracking a shuttlecock with their racquet. Watch how well they lead with their leg in order to give more control and accuracy to their shot. Thomas in class 4C is showing us all a great example of this!
Pupils in year 3 are learning how to track a balloon in preparation for tracking a shuttlecock.

Year 1 have been putting their ball tracking skills to good use in their new topic for P.E., Cricket.
This game helps them with their ball-eye coordination, spatial awareness, striking skills and some simple tactics too.
Year 3
The children decorated their hands using vibrant

colours.  Raise your hands if you love Jesus.
Year 2 have been working on the song 'London's burning.' They performed the song in small groups and have been making up their own songs to the tune.

A picture of the children with their frog masks.  We made frog masks because we have been learning about Amphibians in Science.
It has been a busy week in the classroom, year 1 have listened to the story of Jesus feeding the five thousand.  This taught the children the importance of sharing and being kind. They produced some artwork on the story.
Sustainability Awards
Loreto Convent School was honoured to be shortlisted for Gibraltar’s first ever Sustainability Awards and we congratulate all of tonight’s winners and finalists. We continue delivering this important message to our hugely enthusiastic pupils who will be the future ambassadors for sustainability.
Autumn leaf printing
Foundation Stage 1 have collected leaves from around the school gardens.  They have then been creative by painting the leaves in different colours, pressing them onto paper to produce an Autumn leaf collage.
Gold Book
The 'star of the week' children were presented with their gold pencils and certificates.  Let's see who is in next weeks gold book!

Here is a short clip of their performances and a sneak preview of Year 6’s project.
