Loreto Highlights Update - 30th September 2022
Positions Of Responsibility
This week our Year 6 pupils were awarded their positions of responsibility.  Pupils were presented with their badges by Mrs Napoli and Ms Lombard in morning assembly.  All have been busy, taking on different responsibilities within the school.  Our Academic House captains have completed their first job this week; learning how to collect House Points and manage the data on the iPads.  We know our Year 6 pupils will do a great job in their new roles.
Pop Art
Class 5V recently looked at the artist, Laurel Burch, a modern Pop Artist who was well known for her use of bold and bright colours. We focussed on her 'Sun and Moon' collection, where she used cold and warm colours, combined with patterns and shape to create different compositions. These are some of our examples of working in the style of Laurel Burch, using pastels as our chosen medium.
Bear Hunt
We're going on a Bear Hunt....
Foundation Stage 2 went through the grass, river, mud, forest and snowstorm to find the bear hiding in the cave. The pupils had great fun singing as they went along.
"We're going on a bear hunt. We're going to catch a big one. What a beautiful day. We're not scared."
Peace and God's Family
We have been learning about the Christian family and how our family is a gift to us from God. We discussed how we do special things together just like Jesus did and the many happy times that we have shared. We also discussed the meaning of peace and how it is a wonderful gift that Jesus has given us. The children reflected on what it means to belong to the family of the Church and how we strive to live as Jesus lived. We all have brothers and sisters in every country all over the world. We call this family the Catholic Church.
Feast Day of St Michael.
On Thursday 29th September, we celebrated The Feast of St Michael with our beginning of year Mass.
Year 6 pupils helped with readings and prayers and some of the youngest members of school presented the picture of St Michael to Mgr. Paul.
We told the story of how St Michael protected the Loreto Convent in York – I am sure your child would like to share this with you.
Read more about St. Michael and Loreto here.
Our youngest pupils said a special prayer to Archangel Michael so he can protect us always.

New Nursery 1
We are so excited to welcome you to our newly renovated nursery 1. A place where your child will feel safe and secure in a caring environment. We offer stimulating and sensory toys. We follow themes and topics which are relevant to the children. This is important as learning is a journey and through these topics and themes the children will acquire new skills and knowledge. Children are individuals and are given time to express their own needs and interests. This allows us to tailor the learning experiences to each individual child.
Wanted - 3 Bears
Class 2M has been working on the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears, the pupils did some hot seating asking questions to the bear. Daddy Bear and Mummy ear came to visit us, and the pupils had many questions to ask. Then the pupils made some wanted posters!
The 3 Bears
On Thursday Nursery 1 has another exciting sensory play.  Who came to visit?  It was Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We brought to life the story playing with porridge.
Gold Book
Well done to pupils in Lower Primary and Foundation Stage who were presented with their Gold Award certificates and gold pencils.
Fire! Fire!
Year 2 have been learning about the Great Fire Of London and how houses at the time were made out of wood. Houses were so close together in London in 1666 that the fire spread quickly. There was a strong wind that didn't help and there were no fire fighters in those days! The fire lasted for 4 days!
Nursery 2
We had a special guest during our chapel time this week, Mr Hook came and played the guitar. We started chapel with the Lord's Prayer then two pupils said a short bidding prayer, we all sang hymns and finished with the nursery prayer. This is an early introduction to the Catholic faith.

It was a great performance, and it must have involved a lot of time and preparation on the part of the staff and of the pupils.
