We welcome you back to Loreto at the start of a new decade. We worked very hard as a school in 2019 to prepare for the changes to the school system in Gibraltar and we are now well placed to embrace the challenges of 2020. In December of this year it will 175 be years since the Loreto Sisters arrived in Gibraltar – not knowing what they were coming to and certainly not knowing that 175 years later their work would continue. Their Foundress – The Venerable Mary Ward – would be proud that Loreto in Gibraltar continues as a vibrant, successful school at the heart of the Catholic Church and a beacon for Christian values in this little corner of Europe.
I would like to share with you the prayer with which the Staff started the term and wish you all a very happy, peaceful and healthy 2020
Prayer for a New Beginning
At the beginning of this new year, I offer you my life.
Come take my voice, may the words I speak be filled with encouragement and goodness.
Come take my hands, may the work they create be generous and giving.
Come take my feet, may the journeys I walk be led by your Spirit within.
Come take my life Lord, for I love your goodness, your kindness and your leading.
Gardening Club Last term children in the school gardening club worked hard to maintain the school garden. The children have been sowing seeds, planting vegetables, fruits and shrubs and have harvested over 40 Avocados from the school tree. The children has also been creating new structures such as flower planters, herb planters for each school house and benches for the garden, A group of children have started looking into how they can recycle waste water from the hydration stations to grow vegetables using a process called hydroponics, helping the school become more sustainable. This term we will be making marmalade from oranges off the school tree as part of the club's 'Plant 2 Plate' journey. Please view a short video of photographs highlighting the wonderful work undertaken by the children.
