University of Findlay Center for Student Life and College of Business Project
Clouse Construction was hired to supply the structural steel and erection for the University of Findlay Center for Student Life and College of Business building. The project scope consisted of erecting 385 tons of various steel shapes, joists, and decking for the creation of the 75,000 sq. foot, two-story building, with a third floor mechanical penthouse.

During the project, significant hurdles were crossed, with the first being careful consideration of overhead, high power lines running through the job site. Clouse team members formulated a tightly monitored fabrication schedule and steel delivery sequence, thus avoiding the electrical hazard and still constructing necessary iron so other trades could begin their work.

Another hurdle was persuading the electrical service provider to relocate additional power lines sooner than initially planned. Once this was resolved, the next challenge was the bowstring truss delivery. They were fabricated in Indiana and shipped to the construction site in one complete length. It took precise mapping to maneuver the 130 ft. long bowstring trusses through the narrow, residential streets surrounding the university campus. Once delivered, Clouse crews worked extra hours to hoist and brace off all 15 trusses in one day.
Despite these obstacles, the tight construction schedule was met, with the first delivery of steel in July and the last erection sequence completed the first week of September.

In August 2017, a large crowd gathered to celebrate the opening of the new Center for Student Life and College of Business. Clouse Construction was proud to be a part of this project that has provided a fantastic learning and gathering space for the University of Findlay students and faculty as well as the entire community.
