Soorp Haroutiun Parish Council

Lord, please keep watch over your faithful people and the holy soil of Arstakh and Armenia, now and always. Grant them strength, and lead us together through the present time of trial.
Christ, guardian of all creatures, let your right hand be a shadow over me day and night, tarrying at home and traveling, sleeping and rising, that I may never fail. Have mercy upon your creatures, and upon me, a great sinner. Amen.

A Time to Rediscover God, Through Prayer

Great Lent is a season to rediscover God through prayer, says Bishop Daniel Findikyan in a video message released this week. As the spiritual journey of Lent begins, the Primate calls on the faithful of the Eastern Diocese to rediscover the source of divine hope that has brought inner strength to generations of Armenian Christians.
Throughout Christian history, Bishop Daniel reminds us, inner reflection and conversion have always been central concerns of Lent. But this particular year holds special meaning for the Armenian people, who have endured a time of great suffering, injustice, and loss.
He urges the faithful to take time out of each day for the duration of Lent, to pray and draw closer to God. As an aid to that daily practice, the Eastern Diocese has prepared a Daily Prayer Rule for Great Lent, in Armenian and English, as a guide to communal prayer.
Throughout the season, speak to the Lord from your heart, in unison with fellow faithful of our church—and thereby contribute to Building Up the Body of Christ.

Sunday of Expulsion

The second Sunday of the period of Great lent is called the Sunday of Expulsion. The basis of the mystery of and the name of the day can be found in the Holy Bible, the Book of Genesis: “So the Lord God sent him out of the Garden  of Eden and made him cultivate the soil from which he had been formed” (Genesis 3:23). Prehistory is the following. The human being, listening to the deceitful words of Satan, disobeyed the divine commandments and ate the forbidden fruit, As punishment the human being, the human being, of course, didn’t die at once, but was deprived of the eternity granted by God and was cursed Since then man must work hard and sweat to make the soil produce enough food, and woman will have pain in giving birth to her offspring. And in end God said to the human being: “You were made from soil and you will become soil again” (Genesis 3:19).

The church Fathers have given the Sundays of the Period of great lent such names and mysteries which symbolize the mankind’s way of life – birth, sinning, regret and repentance. This should serve for the human being as an occasion for thinking of himself/herself and his/her lifer so that the period of great Lent should be fruitful and productive

His Holiness Addresses Clergy of Eastern Diocese

The assembled clergy of the Eastern Diocese received an audience with His Holiness Karekin II, the Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, on February 15: the first day of Great Lent. The meeting went forward as a video conference organized at the request of Diocesan Primate Bishop Daniel.
In remarks to the clergy, His Holiness expressed his personal appreciation for their faithful service during a supremely challenging time. He thanked Bishop Daniel for his leadership, and for the spiritual and material aid provided by the Eastern Diocese for the benefit of those in need as a result of the pandemic and the Artsakh war.
After thanking His Holiness for his message of spiritual comfort, Bishop Daniel led the clergy in a prayer for the Catholicos’ well being and continued strength in his apostolic mission.

Artsakh Outreach
Artsakh Outreach is the mission undertaken by the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin to raise support throughout the global Armenian community, and deliver aid to our brothers and sisters in the aftermath of the recent attack on Artsakh. All money raised through this initiative will benefit individuals and families who have been displaced and are in need of financial support. Donations will provide food, shelter, basic necessities and utilities.

Donors can opt to “adopt” a family or make one-time contributions in any amount. Adoption options include supporting one person at $125 per month; a family of two to four at $220 per month; or a family of five to seven at $275 per month. One-time gifts in any amount are also welcome and will go a long way in supporting this effort. For information, contact Laura Gononian at Please click here to donate.

FAR support and participate

FAR’s “Support & Participate” Series Shows How Everyone Can Make a Difference

Janet and Edward Mardigian’s compassion stretches wide. In addition to their remarkable support for critical Fund for Armenian Relief efforts—chief among them the innovative “Breaking the Cycle of Poverty” program—the Mardigians are also generous contributors to the Armenian Church, hospitals, their local dog shelter, and more.
While the couple is in a unique position to generously give, Janet insists on her belief there is always a way to make a difference, whether through donations or volunteerism. The key, she says, is to be able to trust the mission and transparency of the organization to which one gives.
“People want to know where their money is going,” says Ed, who emphasizes the importance of organizational transparency and consistent communication, both of which have greatly influenced his choice of giving to FAR and other organizations through the years. In their long collaboration with FAR, the Mardigians have been able to clearly see the direct impact of their support.
“You don’t have to be financially wealthy to make a difference,” says Janet. “You can always help out: renovate a house, put on a roof. You don’t just have to give dollars; you can give of yourself. You can always do something.”
FAR’s online series, titled “Support & Participate,” focuses on the importance of philanthropy, and why everyone can contribute to making a difference in Armenia—through financial gifts of every size, and gifts of personal commitment.

Read more about it on FAR’s blog.
