The Blessing of the Grapes
COMMEMORATION OF STS. JOACHIM AND ANNA,
PARENTS OF THE HOLY MOHTER-OF-GOD, AND THE OIL-BEARING WOMEN
According to tradition, St. Joachim was a descendant of King David, and St. Anna was the daughter of a priest. One day, while celebrating mass in the cathedral, the priest told Joachim to stand at the end as he had no son. Becoming upset, Joachim came out of the Cathedral and immediately climbed up the mountain, vowing not to descend until visit by God. Following his example, Anna, staying at home, devoted herself to prayer and repentance. When one day Anna saw in the garden birds playing with their nestlings, she became sad and cried for not having been graced with motherhood. Just at that moment the Angel of God visited Anna, telling her that God would be granting her a daughter and that this daughter would be the mother of the Savior of the world. Joachim had the same vision, and becoming very happy, he gave alms to the poor. The parents decided to devote the baby to the Church. The baby was named Mary, which means illuminated.

 FORTIETH DAY DEDICATION

Last Sunday, August 16, 2020 we had a great service of Fortieth Day Dedication Service for Maria Margaryan the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vard Margaryan and Sofya Zhamharyan. Congradulations to the hapy family.

WHAT IS THE FORTIETH DAY DEDICATION

One of the first services a child may experience in his or her life is when on the fortieth day after the child's birth, the parents bring the child to the church. During the service, Christ's dedication to the temple is remembered (Lk. 2:21-40) and the child is dedicated or promised to walk and grow in the life of the Church and God's commandments.

In essence, the parents offer the child to God and in return, God gives the child back to the parents (Mt. 25:14-30). As parents, it is their responsibility to raise the children in according to God's commandments and in the life of the Church, not the priest's or Sunday School teachers' responsibility.

Call during the week to request prayers, hokehankist, visitations to the sick, and house blessings. Please let Church office know if you are planning to have Hokehankist Service. It would be appreciated to have a light lunch or coffee hour following Badarak in memory of the deceased.
Home or Hospital Bound
As an extended family of St. Gregory, many of our sick, elderly and home bound faithful are unable to attend Church. They may be at home or in the hospital but most importantly: They are not forgotten and we would like to make sure to visit them. If you know of someone who is unable to attend Church or is in need of a pastoral visitation, please inform Fr. Paren directly Email: armenianchurchorlando@gmail.com  or call the church office at 407-876-7732.
The Parish Council of Soorb Haroutiun Armenian Church of Orlando is looking forward to restart the Women's Guild in our church. We are asking those who are ready to help and interested on this to contact our Chairman Mr. John Shahinian or call to church office.
