PASA is excited to announce that the Academic Leader for Population and Development Studies at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Professor Pranitha Maharaj, has been appointed Editor in Chief of the Southern African Journal of Demography (SAJD). Prof Maharaj holds a Masters in Sociology from the University of Natal and a PhD in Population Studies from the University of London. She brings a wealth of research experience, having published over 80 research outputs in various peer reviewed journals, books and research reports- she is also National Research Foundation C2 Rated researcher. Prof Maharaj has served as a member of the Editorial Board of the Open Family Studies Journal and International Journal of Population Research. In addition to this, she has served on the Scientific Advisory Board of the Project of the Reproductive Health and HIV Research Unit, National Teen Pregnancy Partnership’s (NTPP) statistics working group and Toolkit for introducing microbicides in the public section. She has been a member of the Population Association of America, Union for African Population Studies and the Demographic Association of South Africa. She continues to be a member of the International Union for the Scientific Study of Population as well as the Population Association of Southern Africa.
