From Michelle

Happy New Year! This Sunday is the first Sunday in the circle of the church year. It's the first Sunday of Advent, the time we prepare for the mystery of Christmas: that God comes to be with us, to be one of us, in the Christ child.

This Sunday we welcome a special guest preacher, Jennifer Henry, the Executive Director of  KAIROS: Canadian Ecumenical Justice Initiatives. KAIROS is a joint venture of a number of Christian denominations (including the United Church of Canada), working together for peace and justice in God's world.

Jennifer will reflect on this week's gospel reading, Luke 21:25-36. When there is so much pain and darkness in the world, where can we find signs of God's hope? How can we be signs of God's hope, for others?

We will also celebrate the Lord's Supper together, to sustain us as we begin the Advent journey to Bethlehem. And we'll sing, pray, share our struggles and our joys, and find companions on the Way of Love.

See you in church!

~ Rev. Michelle

PS - hope to see you at our "Christian New Year's Eve " party on Saturday, Dec 1! Christmas crafts at 4 pm...potluck at 5...vespers and spiritual practices at 7! Bring something yummy to share for supper.
