a kingdom not from this world

"Are you the King of the Jews?"

This Sunday, we mark the last Sunday of the Christian year. It's Reign of Christ Sunday, when we ponder what the kingdom that Jesus proclaimed, and embodied, was really about.

For some of us, language of "king" and "kingdom" make us uncomfortable. They remind us of imperialism, colonialism, oppression, and coercion. They bring to mind the ways human beings and even the Church have misused power.

Yet that is clearly not the kind of king Jesus was, or the kind of kingdom he proclaimed. He speaks about this kingdom in one of our readings for Sunday, John 18:33-38a.

Does the image of God or Jesus as "king" still have meaning for us today, or is it too tainted by human abuse and misuse? These are some of the questions we'll be exploring this Sunday.

There is sure to be great food for thought, some laughter, some heart-felt sharing and prayer, spirited singing, and the companionship of others on the Way of Love.

See you in church!

This Week in Our Children and Youth Ministries...

Our age-specific children and youth Sunday ministries are offered this Sunday! We gather at 10am for prayer, song, sacred story, reflection and response (for about 20 minutes), before being invited to move to separate places and ways of being together.

Preschool Church will be led by Rhiannon, Susanne and Frances, Children's Church will be led by Pam and Karla, and Youth Church will be led by Zach.

More details about our fab children and youth ministry are here. Check the church calendar for our youth events, and check out our general youth group page here.

Congregational Meeting after Worship

Please stay after worship ends, for a short congregational meeting, to receive and consider our congregation's financial reports for the fiscal year ending June 30th, 2018. Coffee and tea provided! Financial reports will be available on Sunday morning.
