Celebrating the Life of Bill Mortimer

Belmont Masters Swimming Club Life Member and Coaching Coordinator, Bill Mortimer, sadly passed away in June. He will be remembered for his positivity, good nature and dedication to the sport. Belmont Masters have prepared an in-memoriam message which we would like to share with you below.

Vale Bill Mortimer

Bill was great man, and a legend in the eyes of Belmont AUSSI Masters Swimming Club. Bill had been a member and enthusiastic swimmer at Belmont Masters since 1995. He was an invaluable asset to the club and will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Bill held several official roles within the club during over the years:
  • Club President for 13 years; 1999 - 2008, 2012 - 2014 & 2018
  • Vice President 2009 - 2010
  • Club Recorder 2016 - 2021
  • Coach and Coaching Coordinator 2015 - 2021
  • Safety Officer 2015
In addition, Bill volunteered many hours for the club arranging social events, sausage sizzles, Club Championships, doing event preparations, and coordinating trophies. Bill was often the chief cook for AGMs and Club Trophy Presentation functions, and he even hosted a couple of these events at his home. Since our club’s 30th Anniversary Bill had stored our club records, photos and memorabilia.

Bill made a huge impact on the club and has left a very positive legacy for the future generation of swimmers. Bill Mortimer was an iconic figure at Belmont AUSSI Masters Swimming Club and we are all the better off for having been part of his life.
